Dreams Do Come True,
By Beverly Sharon Bryant (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Neil Armstrong (History Maker Bios) (Paperback)
I found this book to be fascinating and especially enjoyed all the pictures. Although short, only 48 pages, it was filled with many interesting facts about Neil Armstrong's life from his childhood to when he became a grandfather. This book will surely hold the interest of boys and girls and show them that through hard work dreams can become a reality. The book starts when Neil is 6. He mows grass and gives most of the money to his family as this is the time of the Great Depression. One day his father takes him for a plane ride and this is when Neil decides he wants to become a pilot. As Neil gets older he enjoys reading, building model airplanes and music (he plays the horn in a band called The Mississippi Moonshiners). To pay for flying lessons he works various odd jobs and gets his pilot's license at the age of 16, even before getting his driver's license. Later, he temporarily leaves college to serve in the Korean War where he receives 3 medals. Then over the years Neil learns more and more about becoming an astronaut. On July 20, 1969 Neil becomes the first man to walk on the moon! And you can make your dreams come true, too!
