Not fun, but it works for allergies,
By
This review is from: Neilmed Sinus Rinse Kit (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
The Neilmed Sinus Rinse Kit is the best thing I've found to clear the congestion I get with allergies every winter. It seems like every year I get stopped up and then have trouble sleeping, lose my voice, and often wind up with a sinus infection - but this product has stopped all that. The funny thing is that this is supposed to be the worst year for allergies that we've had in a long time around here and I feel great!
The process, for me, is actually fairly uncomfortable. The first few times I felt like I was either going to drown or gag, and it's still not fun; but I can finish the rinse without too much pain now. If it hadn't been for the immediate results after the first time, I never would have done it again:). I won't go into details about the process since it is kind of gross, but I will say that it definitely works. For me, it works best to do the rinse an hour or two before going to bed - then my congestion stays cleared through the night and I still feel great in the morning. If I try to rinse after I've already started to clog up, then it sometimes requires two bottles and still doesn't seem quite as effective. I'm still taking Claritin every day to help with the other allergy symptoms - but this sinus rinse is making it possible for me to sleep. If you have problems with congestion from allergies, I highly recommend this product.

Before I found this wonderful product, I used a medical nasal irrigator bulb and mixed my own salt and baking soda. (And before that, I got a massive sinus infection every time I got a cold). This product is more convenient, and worth the minor cost difference.
I irrigate at least once a day when I have any kind of cold or flu. Since the disgusting green slime winds up in the sink instead of rotting up my nose, once I'm done with the cold I'm also done with the infection. Advice for new users: get a Pyrex 2-Cup Measuring Cup to heat the eight ounces of distilled water - add the mix to the cold water, heat for about a minute in the microwave, and then swirl to make sure the mix is dissolved (the advantage of using a bigger sized cup). Once you irrigate your sinuses will feel worse for about five minutes and then start to drain, so don't do this right before eating. Amazon sells the one-pack of this product also, and sometimes the multi-packs of products on Amazon are a little silly. But in this case you really will want to get a different kit for each family member. Just trust me on this one.

Takes getting used to at first BUT it works great!!!,

I bought this because snoring is a problem along with allergies. I also woke up every morning and had to spit up a lot of thickish, green mucus. Yuck!
I gave this a try when I purchased it on a whim. What a difference this thing makes. It's a bit messy on first try and it takes getting used to but over the course of a few days, I saw the mucus I spit up become clearer and clearer until no more spitting up mucus at all. It's even helped with my snoring somewhat. I definitely feel better using this and highly recommend it for anyone with sinus problems or allergies. I used only 60ml on first try. I didn't know what to expect and didn't want to cause any harm. I immediately learned that I needed to use the whole 240ml dose. As advertised, it doesn't burn or cause any harm. For the price and ease, I'd rather use this than pop a Claritin everyday. It works great, just as it is advertised to do. It seems the practice of nasal irrigation goes way back. More and more physicians are recommending the practice to their patients. Now I see why.

uncomfortable process but worth it for congestion,

The first time I used this pressurized neti pot system it was incredibly uncomfortable, now I'm used to it. It doesn't hurt, it's just like water flossing your sinus cavity. At first it made me even more congested and drainy, but after a week it was like my sinus cavities had been excavated. I could feel the water going up, filling them, and then coming down. If you snort it a little before you blow the excess water out it will drip down your throat, but clear that passage too. It will grab whatever's up there, fight infection, drip lightly for about an hour and leave me feeling better the rest of the day. I bought 200 extra packets after I'd had it for a week and now also own the drying rack. It's just the right size to give the effective 4oz rinse on each side, lets you control the pressure, and is easy to clean. Much better than a standard pot, and Nelimed seems to have frequent rebate programs.

good bye sinus headaches!,

No more chemicals or drugs...this product is easier to use than a neti pot. I no longer suffer from terrible sinus headaches and I haven't had a sinus infection since using the Neilmed.

Makes a Difference,

I have allergies, so my ENT recommended this kit to rinse my sinuses. I bought it, but left it in the drawer because (1) I had no interest in squirting water up my nose and (2) after reading the instructions, thought it was also too complicated. My doctor had prescribed antihistamines and a nasal steriod spray. Those medications worked OK, but the antihistamines really dried me out and after using the spray for a couple of months, I got a nosebleed. I needed to do something different so I pulled out the Neil Med kit and decided to try it. The nurse had demonstrated it for me, but I wasn't sure I remembered everything so I found the video online and watched it a few times. I got up my nerve and gave it a try. Surprisingly, it wasn't hard to do or unpleasant and my nose felt great after. It took me about a week to get the hang of it, but everyday was better and it wasn't complicated to use at all. I pick up distilled water when I buy groceries. Now rinsing my sinuses is part of my morning routine. I'm glad I gave it a try. Using the Neil Med kit and a children's dose of an over the counter antihistamine keeps my allergies/sinus problems in check without a lot of side effects. I recommend buying the dock for the bottle as it makes it a lot easier to store and dry.

This is a great product for anyone that has ever suffered from sinus drainage. If you can deal with it, some can't but if you can it cleans out the germs and mucus that makes you miserable.

My order was based on my wife having serious sinusitis. We got this expecting something decent for $20 and we got way more than we bargained for.The process is so simple, but, it clears out her nose like nothing else does. I use it myself to get any little booger i might have lurking in my nose and my nose feels great afterward. Highly recommended for someone with sinusitis.

YMMV,

With a deviated septum and allergies, I always have a nasal passage that is blocked off even with medication.
On every attempt I made using this product (3 or 4 times), I got a sharp pain in my ear which prompted me to stop using the product. According to the manual included, if your nasal passage is sealed up, you shouldn't use the product. I would recommend trying the single pack out before purchasing this two pack to see if sinus rinses work for you, or you might just end up tossing it like I did.

Easier than neti, and works great. Must have!,

I was using the neti pot and my allergist suggested this instead and gave me a sample. It's so much easier than the neti pot, and works just as well, if not better. It's hard to get all the solution out, but I use it daily and it keeps my sinuses clear. I recommend it to anyone to avoid sinus infections. This product isn't just a preference, it's become a necessity in my life.
