Nekropolis 1 August 6, 2009
Meet Matt Richter. Private Eye. Zombie. Meet Matt Richter. Private Eye. Zombie. His mean streets are the city of the dead, the shadowy realm known as Nekropolis. This place has always been ruled by the vampire lords. Now they're planning to destroy the city. Over his dead body. More pulp than Pulp Fiction, more butt-kicking than Buffy, Nekropolis is the first in a deathly new series. Editorial Reviews

Review

"It's hard to say if this singular novel, which boasts a wicked sense of humour to round off the horror, should be eligible for an Edgar Award or a Bram Stoker, or both." -- Elliot Swanson, Booklist "[Nekropolis] is an atmospheric and exciting mystery." -- SF Site "An up-and-comer who's worthy of the hype... Tim Waggoner is well on his way to being proclaimed horror fiction's leading surrealist." -- Cemetery Dance

4.0 out of 5 stars Zombie PI, August 4, 2009
This review is from: Nekropolis (Nekropolis 1) (Hardcover)
Matt Richter is a private detective in Nekropolis, an underworld where all types of monsters walk the streets. But he is also a zombie, who continually works to keep his body from deteriorating. When a beautiful half-vampire asks his help to find a missing artifact, Richter puts himself in more danger than he has ever faced before. Plenty of people want him dead. But being already dead has its advantages.

Richter is a great character, akin to old noir P.I. novels. And that he's a zombie, in constant need of repair, is a wonderful twist. All of the characters are larger than life, and often humorous in nature. With plenty of twists, surprises, and undead smack-downs, Nekropolis has made my list of top reads of the year.

The setting is a lot like Simon R. Green's Nightside series with mystery, dark humor, and horror. Though I found myself enjoying this novel even more. The story is darker, a bit more complex, with likeable characters. It's fresh and fun; and I didn't want it to end. Fantasy and horror fans, don't miss this fantastic release.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great premise...awful writing!!! Where is the spellcheck?, October 5, 2010
This review is from: Nekropolis (Nekropolis 1) (Hardcover)
OMG!! Where do I begin? I have to say that I enjoyed the overall story, descriptions were vivid, interesting characters, funny.....
Now here is the reason that I am giving this book a 2 star.....AWFUL EDITING/PROOFREADING/AND VERY MUCH IN NEED OF SPELLCHECK AND GRAMMER CHECK AS WELL!!!! For someone that teaches composition and creative writing at the college level, and is a faculty mentor of a major university...he has way too many issues with misspelled, ill used words. I kept with the story because I enjoyed it, but it is for the simple reason that because of the many errors in this book, I will not be reading more of the series, and leaving this author/character behind....sorry!!!!
