I love this book. It gives so many ideas on how to decorate for the christmas season. It's elegant, but not too over-the-top. I absolute love it and recomend her other book also!

I was looking forward to rec'ving this book based on the other reviews but ended up returning it. If you're a serious Holiday decorator, there aren't that many ideas (not worth the price of the book anyway). You can get more ideas out of a good Holiday magazine. Not a Santa, a snowman or vintage decoration to be had; this book is filled with natural flora and fauna for the most part.

What really bugged me was the publisher kept recycling the same photographs - - the wall sconce filled with red stuff was in there on 3 or 4 different pages. That seemed cheap, like why not show different closeups?

The decorating was pretty but generic. And not enough of it. I was dissappointed.

This is frothy, glitzy decorating, classic with a modern twist.
I can't say you are going to get plenty of ideas to decorate, especially if you are the crafty, shabby-chic kind of person. But even if you are, and are in the mood for something more "comme-il-faut" this year, then this is a good book to start. I spent a very pleasant afternoon going through its pages. Ms. Garrity has a very comfortable house and the photos do everything they can to showcase it. So gold and red and homey, you will smell the orange-cinnamon upscale perfume oils. And I'll sure return to it again and again when I need something elegant to put me in the spirit of Christmas.

I borrowed this book from the library and now I ABSOLUTELY MUST own it! I am anxious for the holidays so that I can steal some of Ms. Garrity's timeless decorating ideas. As soon as the Thanksgiving dishes are cleared, I'm off to decorating with this book as my reference. I can't wait! Page 58-59 are my favorites. If you love "over the top" decorating, this is your book!

This book is another excellent and beautiful example of decorating you can do (and live with) by Mary Carol Garrity! Her suggestions and ideas are wonderful and the photographs are inspiring!

Mary Garrity is the owner of Nell Hill's furnishings in Kansas and checks in with her second book of great decorating ideas for the home, this time spotlighting holiday decorting.

Mary offers simple, yet stylish and eye-popping decorating tips for every room in the house such as using fresh greens on the mantle. The book is filled with wonderful photography that accompanies Mary's tips. SHe writes in a very homey style but also quite knowledgable obviously of the use of colors and textures.

Wonderful book

What a beautifully written book by an author who had totally escaped me until I discovered her here at Amazaon...and what a treat! As someone who's been around the block a few times with regard to decorating for the holidays and is always on the look-out for books and magazines on the subject, I found Mary Carol Garrity's book refreshing and inspirational, trumping anything I currently have in my library, including all the cursory titles by Martha Stewart. And the primary reason, I think, is because she has an inspirational flair for inviting her readers to consider things they already have and demonstrating unique ways to incorporate them into a holday theme. I would highly recommend this little gem to anyone seeking a fresh perspective on decorating for Christmas! Pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy this read!

Love this book. Great pictures. Lots of interesting decorating ideas. Very sophisticated with a bit of trendy. Definitely inspirational when you are wanting a starting point for decorating. I can't wait to get her other books.

Mary Carol tells us right from the beginning that she likes to take things over the top during the holidays, so if you're looking for a few "simple ideas" you may want to go elsewhere. The book is beautifully photographed but you might just be overwhelmed with her "Clark Griswald" excess, so buyer beware! I bought my copy for just a few dollars to add it to my decorating library and it was worth the price of shipping.

OK it's only August, and after having looked at this book yesterday, I am already thinking about my Christmas decorating! The ideas in this book are gorgeous - some are not my style at all, some are - but the way she puts it all together makes it all look fantastic, even if it's not a style I would choose. Mary Carol Garrity definitely has some great ideas on how to decorate a mantle, and shows you how to add those little touches here and there that make a house have that "magic" when it comes to Christmas. I am sure I will be referring to this book when Christmas gets closer (ooh, it seems so long to have to wait!). This book has stunning photographs, and it makes for a wonderful gift too. I highly recommend this book if you're into Christmas decorating.
