5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and melancholy
NELL is one of Mark Isham's greatest film scores. It is lyrical, beautiful and melancholy, and it will likely conjure images from your past, thoughts about lost loves, or any other nostaligia-laden scenarios from your life. Isham has an uncanny way of making music that bypasses one's critical faculties and goes directly to the emotions. This soundtrack gives me chills...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Musical Journey Into The Woods
A folksy main theme gives the soundtrack a definite sweet, rural sound, before urban, modernistic moods transform and threaten the innocence. The antithetical technique is perfectly appropriate and provides an interesting listening experience, but the differing elements are so superficially handled, or put at such equal ends, that the dichotomy is not as effectual as it...

This soundtrack gives me chills and makes me sad, but it's a sweet sadness. It's hard to put into words, but if you like evocative film music, you'll probably get swept up in this score. It's very moody, very gentle and very innocent, like thoughts of a long-gone childhood or favorite memory. Mark Isham is a remarkable composer, and here's a classic of his film work.

Oh my! This soundtrack is wonderful! The song reflect the feelings and the surroundings in this movie. The songs move with such fluidity and emotion. I am buying a second copy because my cat tore apart my tape version, so I am buying it on CD.

A folksy main theme gives the soundtrack a definite sweet, rural sound, before urban, modernistic moods transform and threaten the innocence. The antithetical technique is perfectly appropriate and provides an interesting listening experience, but the differing elements are so superficially handled, or put at such equal ends, that the dichotomy is not as effectual as it could be. The underscore amounts to a highly skilled exercise; it has the things it needs, just not enough of them for solid support.
