Norway and the Canary Islands are just two of the places tracked in this well-known series (founded by Gunter Nelles, originally with Insight Guides). Nelles guides have the same basic look and text of its predecessor. In fact, it is hard to tell them apart except the Nelles guides being smaller, which makes them more convenient for traveling. Very informative and easy to use, these formula-type books are broken into four parts: "History and Culture," "Travel Destinations," "Travel Information," and "Features" (highlights of what each country is famous for, e.g. local cuisine, architecture, or midnight sun). Each page features full-color pictures illustrating the topic at hand. The book covers are attractive and appealing, with the smiling face of a native of the respective country. On an educational level, this series is helpful for homework assignments and background information. As a travel guide, this series, more popular in Europe than the United States, is very similar to other better-known guide book series.
