I had this read to me as a little girl and remembered it whilst telling my friend titles of children's books that she could find for her son. It is such a lovely story and I am so sad to see that you can't get it new on here, if at all.

We bought this little gem of a book for our son when he was a toddler. He loved having us read it to him. For us, it had a magic all its own, with the sense that a toy cat might have worth and an alive sense of self that could survive beyond the life of the old woman who constructed it. Almost 20 years later, I still remember this book, with its vivid illustrations, as something absolutely special in the world of literature for very young children.
