5.0 out of 5 stars Nell & a Second Chance
I Loved this book I could not put it down. This is a wonderful story at a second chance of love. I would love to return to Promise. I have over and over with the whole series. The stories are wonderful and you can't get enough.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not One of Her Best
I have read many books by Debbie Macomber, and this one was the least interesting. It really seemed to drag, had fewer characters and story lines than the other books. Nell and Travis, the two main characters of this book are not quite as interesting as the other match ups that usually populate her novels. 5.0 out of 5 stars Nell gets her cowboy-after she makes him over from a Yankee, August 23, 1998
I want to move to Promise as soon as I get some directions from Debbie. I'll bring my own cowboy, but i love her charecters. I don't even care if I get to go to the ghost town. Nell's a widow trying to make it on her own after losing her husband, Not only does she have two kids to take care of, but an elderly mother-in-law doesn't leave her much time. Debbie Macober is a great big "BUY ME" sign as far as i'm conceerned. No weak women in her books. Even the spinsters are someone you wish you knew.

I have read many books by Debbie Macomber, and this one was the least interesting. It really seemed to drag, had fewer characters and story lines than the other books. Nell and Travis, the two main characters of this book are not quite as interesting as the other match ups that usually populate her novels. The mystery of Bitter End does get solved, but that part of the story was really slow. Also, I felt that the minor characters like Nell's two children and her mother-in-law were not very well drawn.
I know that Debbie Macomber fans are very loyal, so I am sorry if this offends some of you, but maybe I have read too many of her books with the same plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars I DIDN"T REALLY LIKE THIS ONE, BUT DID THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES., February 13, 2009
Nell's Cowboy:

I didn't really like this one. There were not enough encounters with Nell and Travis, though I did like them and liked the idea of the story. The author just spent way too much time on going over what was in the first four books. That might have been good if I hadn't read them, and especially if I hadn't JUST read them. The writing was well done, just the story of the two main characters was so brief, it was hard to get into it.

I did like what she did with the results to the Bitter End Town. Very creative.

I just had to add the next review, especially since it goes along with this one in the, Heart of Texas Vol 3. I hate giving a bad review, especially when all the others in the series were good. As is the other books I've read by, Debbie Macomber.

Lone Star Baby:

Now this one was MUCH better. This one really got into the story of the two main characters, not hitting so much on the other characters from the previous stories or over doing it about what happened with Bitter End. The author really developed these two characters relationship.

This one made me laugh, often and brought about that "good feeling" about the characters, too. I really like this one.

I also like how the story of Bitter End played out. Very cute idea and very creative. Loved many of the ideas and lines the author came up with.

2.0 out of 5 stars An acceptable continuation, June 25, 1998

The 5th story in the Sons of Texas series seems to be the pivotal book in the continuing Bitter End Saga. The mystery of Bitter End is finally solved.... if you've read the other four books, you definitely want to know this, but the story of Nell and Travis seems to be lost in the process. If you haven't read the other Sons of Texas books, don't read this one first!!!!
