First I want to mention, for those that don't know, a "Gnu" prounced, "noo" is large African antelope with an oxlike head and a horselike tail. With that said, I really loved this book! I think it really captured the feeling of when my dad built me a doll house. Although, the one my dad built wasn't nearly as good as the one in the story, but it was special because we did it together. The pictures are vibrant and some make you go, AWWWW, because they are so cute.

Below is the first part of the story:

"Nelly loves her Daddy Gnu. He always knows just what to do.

A great big box, some tape, and string-Daddy can make anything!

First they measure. Then they draw. Nelly tapes, and Daddy saws..

Then, they add a little glue. Nelly and her Daddy Gnu!

A perfect little house for one! But Nelly thinks it's not quite done....

It needs some flowers, just a few. Time to shop with Daddy Gnu.

A big adventure to the store! Plants and hammers, ladders, more.

Would she like a better view? Take a ride on Dady Gnu!", (Here is a picture of Nelly on her daddy's shoulders.)

And so the story goes, they look for paint, brushes and other items to complete the house. Nelly goes on to talk about how much fun it is to spend time with her daddy. However, at one point she becomes separated from her dad and gets a little scared. But of course he's not far away and Nelly is all smiles again.

The end of the story goes like this:

"Paint the house with brick designs. Big bright flowers, climbing vines.(Picture of them painting the house together.)

There's nothing that these two can't do-Nelly and her Daddy Gnu.

Time for dinner, Daddy cooks.

Love it! I was so excited to see a book from the Llama Llama series with a daddy in it... We love Llama Llama but it is so mommy centric and honestly a little anxiety ridden. This is great for Father's Day and I am sure my husband and daughters will love it!

Bought this book for my grandchildren who have enjoyed other "Llama,Llama" books. I like the focus on the father and child relationship. Great illustrations, too.

‘Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too’ written and illustrated by Anna Dewdney, the creator of Llama Llama series, is a warm story for children that emphasizes how important is family in our lives, and how crucial are parents for their kids to grow into happy people by leading their examples.

The beginning of the story will introduce main character named Nelly Gnu who loves her father and loves to work with him on some special task for Nelly.
While working together, Nelly excitedly listens to her father’s ideas and helps him as much as she can. In same time, young reader will meet the rest of this charming family and friends – Mama, Baby Gnu and Llama Llama.

With ‘Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too’ Anna Dewdney once again managed to create book that is full of emotions, in this particular example, aimed towards Nelly’s father, which makes ‘Nelly Gnu and Daddy Too’ a great choice for a picture book read by dads or as a gift for some young father.

The text in rhymes, cheerful illustrations, these are all reasons why this book is worth browsing/reading along with the children; yet its main and most important characteristic is a message that book carries.

My three and a half year old loves the Llama Llama books. We mainly borrow from the library, but I bought this one since it was about a girl this time (Nelly Gnu). It's not quite as cute as the other books though, the rhyming is just not as clever. She still likes it but it's not as fun for me to read aloud as the others.

I saw this book and ordered it for my hubby for Father's Day. I couldn't resist when it was delivered and snuck a peak. :) I loved it! This is the perfect story for my hubby and daughter! Nelly Gnu gets to spend the day with her daddy. Together they build this wonderful playhouse and enjoy spending time together. Daddy's patient and let's Nelly Gnu help with the building and even takes her to the store to buy supplies. My daughter loves to spend time in the garage with her daddy building cabinets for his work. She even calls Home Depot the Daddy Store. I can't wait for Father's Day so they can enjoy snuggle time before bed reading this story together!!

My 2 year old LOVES this book! We picked up this book when our daughter was going through a phase of being very clingy towards her mom (me). This book was a great way for my husband to talk to my daughter about how much he loves her. They love talking about the adventures of Nelly Gnu and her dad.

This book really captures the special bonds that dads and daughters can have, without any implying any stereotypes about parental roles of moms and dads. I love the rhythm of Anna Dewdney's writing in this book and others. We've owned this book for about 4 months now, and we read it often, but I'm still not tired of reading it.

This book by Anna Dewdney is my favorite from her. Dad, it seems, is a stay at home dad. He spends the day making a mini house with Nelly. They take a trip to the hardware store to find paint for the house. In the end, Nelly sleeps in her cozy house that she made with her dad.

I love that dad understands Nelly. When Nelly gets lost and afraid, he makes her laugh and gives her a big hug. The little flashlight he buys for her little house is perfect. This is a very simple and sweet story about the relationship between daddy and daughter. It is very heartwarming.

A fifth star for the sweetness and lightheartedness of the story. What a perfect book for bedtime reading between dad and daughter!
