50336/N109C...the same?,

This review is from: Nelson 50336 Brass Hose Quick Connectors Set, Male and Female (Lawn & Patio)
Have not purchased these yet, but do own several of the LR Nelson N109C quick disconnects.
I was curious was if the new #50336 would be compatible with the older N109C so I contacted LR Nelson directly. Their response... They are exactly the same item, just re-numbered. Hope this helps someone. Jeff Update 7/7/10: I purchased the #50336 in August 2009 and they work with and look exactly like my older N109C that I ordered from Amazon in the years past.I figured I'd mention this as one reviewer stated that the older N109C has an auto shutoff in it and restricts flow. Nelson did make an auto shut-off model in the past (which I also own) but the N109C model absolutely does not have any type of shut-off in it.

The best part of these is that they are brass and not plastic. They are very heavy duty and do exactly what they are supposed to do. The only drawback is that they are not interchangable with other types of quick connect fittings. That said, I purchased a whole bunch of these (they sell a two-pack of male fittings - you will need more of those). Female attach to the spigot and male attach to your various sprinklers and nozzles.
The number one rule is that plastic and hose fittings dont go together. Plastic threads will fall apart VERY quickly - stick to brass fittings. I am very impressed with this.

If you need a quick connect/disconnect fitting, these are the units to get. Solid brass, not the cheap plastic knock-off look alike you might have seen. These really last. I use them at home and on my RV for connecting the water supply. Totally leak proof.
Update - December 2009 These all brass unit get all stars. I have used them for years and have never had an issue/problem with any of them. I also use them on my RV water connection. I leave the male end always connected to the RV water line input connection. I leave the female connected to the water hose I use to connect to the RV park water faucet. To protect the RV male connection when not in use, I adapted an extra Nelson Brass Hose 'female' Quick Connector end with a cap screwed into it to keep the connection clean. Zero leaking connections and this makes it far easier hook-up to the RV park water. I tried cheaper units and some of the plastic (?) rubber (?) units. Garbage. These are 100% quality and you can not beat the price.

This product is a lot more expensive than the quick disconnects at my local hardware store, but I figured I wanted a good product that would last, and for solid brass, and the great reviews, it would be worth the extra money to get a quality product. I am using these in an rv. I purchased 2 of these, and intended to purchase more. However, after the first use, I decided against it. The quality of construction is in deed good, however, I found that unless the hose is positioned just right, the connection will leak--alot! I could not get the leak to stop without moving the hose around, but who is going to sit there and hold it in one place? I am thinking that maybe this would work ok on a home faucet where the water pressure is higher (50-60 psi) but the water pressure going into the rv is regulated to 45 psi, and may not allow it to make a good seal. At any rate, both leaked very badly, and will not be suitable for use in the rv.

We have 3 different faucets and maybe 10 various watering attachments and we use these at every point of connection. They are sometimes hard to find locally so I stock up in case they ever quit marketing these brass connectors.
I use a pair of plumbers wrenches and fresh washers when I intially set them up and then they are trouble free.

As soon as I received my Nelson quick connects, it was clear to me why Orbit added a rubber-coated ridge to the male connector. The Nelson male connector is bare brass, and I found it difficult to tighten it, given that there isn't much to grab onto. The ridges that are machined in are not of much use, since they are not very deep, and the band is very narrow.
I know these things do not need to be tightened as much as the lug nuts on your vehicle. I wasn't trying to go overboard; I just wanted them to be secure and watertight. I also did not want to have to use a set of pliers or Teflon tape to do the job. This seems reasonable to me. I found I also prefer the rubber that Orbit adds to the female connector. Brass is an excellent material for plumbing fittings of this type, but it leeches lead, so I prefer to minimize my contact with it (without having to use plastic or aluminum fittings). I'm not saying they're dangerous, but again, I'd much prefer to minimize my contact with it. I ordered two of these sets. One of my Nelson female connectors snapped on crisply and securely. The other one must have been machined with a slight imperfection, since it stuck just a bit--enough to make it more bothersome to use. I returned mine and bought some Orbit 58117Ns. And I'm glad I did.

This item is well built, solid, nice to look at, leak free, locks and unlocks well, and will probably last a lifetime. I've owned my share of hose connectors and this is as good as it gets. The only minus is that like all connectors it is a constriction and could reduce flow just a bit.

I got tired of threads wearing out with the plastic quick connector sets. I seen the Nelson brass hose quick connectors set here on Amazon.com and after reading a few of these reviews and seeing that the Nelson brand did come without the auto shutoff I decided to give it a try. I did not like the auto shutoff feature with the plastic quick connect sets like the last set I had bought as I had different uses for the hose that required full water flow after a disconnect. After receiving this Nelson 50336 Brass Hose Quick Connectors Set I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I have ordered more of the male fittings since.

These are brass, they are best. No issues after 10 years. I leave them out all winter, no issues. Well worth the price. I've even grabbed onto the nipple with pliers to tighten (not a bright idea), and they still seat fine.
I just picked up another two sets - they just plug into the existing ones I have, no issues. The look-alikes are aluminum, colored bronze and will begin to oxidize after 2-3 years.

I bought five of these from Amazon and installed one, checked it worked then used it for half an hour. Then I tried to remove it and it wouldn't budge. I got a vice grip thinking more leverage would help, no dice. Then using the vice grip to hold the collar I smacked it on concrete several times and got the collar to come down but it still wouldn't come off. I put the nozzle in a vice and used a hammer and chisel to pound the thing off. Figuring I just had a defective one, I tried two more. After about 30 seconds of use it just wouldn't come off but fortunately I was able to pry them off with the vice grip.
