1.0 out of 5 stars Leaks like crazy!!!
I'll preface this by saying that the overall build quality of the unit is sound but I don't know what the deal is with the gap in the handle right under the edge of the black rubber grip where the nozzle attaches to the hose. There's an opening there for some reason and I don't know if it's meant to release excess pressure in the water line or what but when I close the...

This review is from: Nelson 50503 High-Pressure Rated Fireman's Style Industrial Spray Nozzle with Large On/Off Lever (Lawn & Patio)
I won this as a door prize and laughed. I figured it would be just something else to sell at the next garage sale, but I thought I'd try it first. I was impressed. It does put out a lot of water (we have 80# pressure) and the large end controls the stream easily. I'm able to adjust the stream from concentrated full force to a fine mist and since it puts out so much water, it cut the time I need to water the flowers in the morning in half. I'm so impressed, I'm buying another for the front yard.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that the on/off seemed backwards to me. You pull back to start the flow and push forward to stop. Also, it is heavy, but at least I don't have to worry about it falling apart like the plastic ones.

Update--Dec 27,2009 - I've now used 2 of these all summer and fall and am still sold. They're great. I was able to reverse the on/off lever by removing the screws and switching the handle to the reverse side of the nozzle as stated in some of the comments and soon found out why it's the way it is. When the nozzle is on the ground, it's very tempting to pick it up using the on/off lever. When the forward position is the OFF position, it's not a problem. When it's reversed and you pick up the nozzle, the handle moves forward (to ON) because of the weight of the hose and you end up getting soaked. It's happened a couple of times to me, so I switched it back to the way it came. I guess they DID know what they were doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I break everything!!!!, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Nelson 50503 High-Pressure Rated Fireman's Style Industrial Spray Nozzle with Large On/Off Lever (Lawn & Patio)
For those of you that break everything that isn't metal, this is the sprayer for you!! Unfortunately, I'm on my second one since the first one was run over by my wife in her 4-Runner. Amazingly, it still worked but the handle was bent over so badly it would not turn on or off all the way. In the unlikely event of a roof fire, it shoots so far that you probably won't need a fire department because you'll be able to put the fire out yourself. (Please call the fire department anyways.) Great for washing the car. You conserve water and blast away dirt w/o a pressure washer. Just be careful when watering plants, it's stupidly powerful and can blow the dirt away. Have fun!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nelson High Pressure Nozzle, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Nelson 50503 High-Pressure Rated Fireman's Style Industrial Spray Nozzle with Large On/Off Lever (Lawn & Patio)
I've used this nozzle for about a year with super results. My outside water pressure is close to 90 pounds PSI and will blow most nozzles apart. I do recommend removing nozzle during freezing weather since ice can rupture the interior movement. Nelson replaced mine at no charge. Great product!

There's an opening there for some reason and I don't know if it's meant to release excess pressure in the water line or what but when I close the nozzle, water leaks out really bad through that gap.

this is an absurd design flaw in my opinion. I'm sure they had their reasons for it but you don't see the $5 pistol grip sprayer from walmart leaking like that...

This is the 3rd type fire hose nozzle I've gotten that has failed me. I went and got what I should have bought in the first place and that's the USA made fire hose nozzle from Griot's Garage. It's the nozzle that all these chinese made cheap knockoffs want to be, it's spray pattern is superior and can fire farther and it's also a nozzle that I'm not afraid of leaving out during the freezing winter. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very short life, August 15, 2009

Have 7 Nelson nozzles of various design. 3 Firehose, 2 Pistol and 2 Wand. I have clean good city water. The wand twist flow controls became inop soon after purchase. I do like the firehose and pistol models but the Rubber/plastic on all are cracked and disintregrating.
Guess they might be OK if kept inside and never used outdoors.
I will avoid Nelson Nozzles and products unless they are 100% brass.

5.0 out of 5 stars my wife took it :(, August 2, 2009
This review is from: Nelson 50503 High-Pressure Rated Fireman's Style Industrial Spray Nozzle with Large On/Off Lever (Lawn & Patio)
I saw one of these at Sams club one day for $9.95, and picked it up on a whim. It works great. Not only is it higher volume than the typical sprayer, it also separates the volume control from the spray pattern. This is because the tip turns to change the spray pattern, and there is a separate valve to turn it on/off. So you can set the spray pattern to what you want, then control the volume with the valve. It makes it easy to quickly water flowers without beating them up.

The only problem is, my wife keeps taking it to the back yard hose, so I have to go get it every time I wash the car.

i use this to clean out the carwash at my work. this is vary good if you have higher than normal water pressure(like a commercial or industrial cleaning application)and don't need the force or cost of a pressure washer. i haven't tried it at my home yet as my home is only 35 psi and my work is 75 psi. not a good idea to buy this if you are trying to conserve water as this uses a ton of water. it actually does work like a scaled down fireman's hose.
~UPDATE~
now July 11 2009, I've had an opportunity to test it at home and I'm dissapointed to say it was made for moderately higher water pressure. it does say it's an industrial grade sprayer though, and with the exception of a few nicks and smudges on the rubber outer cover, it's still like new. that's pretty good considering it's left on the ground in the bay of a carwash with detergents and reclaimed water spraying on it, not to mention my abuse to it throwing it on the ground whenever i'm done. I WILL TRY TO POST A VIDEO REVIEW SOON!

2.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful... until it broke., April 5, 2009
By
A. B. Johnson (Midwest City, OK) - See all my reviews

My husband bought this sprayer in early summer 2008. As a full-time fireman, he loves the fireman style nozzle because he's all about dispensing the most water in the least amount of time. The sprayer was used regularly last summer and fall and was used off and on during the winter months. My husband got it out the other day to start spring 2009 watering and it was leaking horribly. He took it apart and there's a piece inside that, according to him, should have been made of metal... not plastic. For as much as these sprayers are, they shouldn't be made of cheap parts... and surely should last more than a couple of seasons--and definitely more than a year! Beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great product from L.R. Nelson!, July 19, 2008
A Kid's Review
I've been using Nelson products since the mid '80s. As a matter of fact, I sold L.R. Nelson products from the '80s to the early 90's when I was a purchasing agent for a couple of large irrigation corporations. I have used everything, from their residential and commercial sprinklers, timers & valves....to their basic hardware store quick couplers and hose nozzles. I've never been unhappy with a Nelson product and this High Flow Nozzle portrays the quality of the Nelson product line as well. An excellent hose end nozzle, well built & heavy duty. I can see that leaving this out on the end of a hose through every kind of weather, hot or cold, season after season, I'll be able to pick up the nozzle and it will continue to work flawlessly! I use ours primarily for during the Spring and Autumn when we can burn brush, weather permitting. It developes a strong spray and is adjustable to a fine mist. It's " On/Off " lever shuts off or turns on the water quickly and easily. I will be purchasing a minimum of 2 more of these nozzles for the other 2 hoses we have attached to the perimeter of our home. An excellent product!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS is the Fireman's Hose, July 28, 2010
This review is from: Nelson 50503 High-Pressure Rated Fireman's Style Industrial Spray Nozzle with Large On/Off Lever (Lawn & Patio)
I bought two of these two years ago. I use one on my front porch and one on my back deck to water plants and flowers that I can reach with my hose. I don't bother to plant farther out any more because of water restrictions in my state. Be careful, there is a part inside in the middle that is plastic and WILL break. I dropped one of the older ones on the concrete driveway and it's now a door stop at my son's house. This year I went back and bought four more. I still have two hidden away for posterity. (Someone will find them when I am dead and gone and say something about "that crazy lady") I must say that two years ago I paid about $12 for them and this year only about $10 each at a membership club out of Arkansas. They do make a fine mist for delicate seedlings to a knock out the windows kind of power to reach the far away plants. I do use them to reach windows to clean and my son is always using one to wash off his car every time he comes over. It's especially handy in the Spring with all of that yellow pollen. I wash down the deck and the front porch almost daily. I love the handle on it. It is not backwards to me. The packaging says its 350 psi and 205 bars? Whatever that it. I love it. Take it inside in the winter when you turn the water off outside.

Update: April 2011. We have now turned the water on for the summer and attached my "fireman's hose nozzle" to hoses on front porch and back deck. Keeps the pollen off daily and any other problems. My son just left after washing bird droppings off his car. Don't buy black cars. I think this is our third summer with these nozzles and I still have two hidden away. I did add new O rings.
