I had a Nelson "Select-a-spray" for years, it was rugged and I would leave it out for half the winter until I remembered to take it in. But year after year it would work just great! No leaks, and all the patterns were fine. After 5 years, it broke down.

I tried to find the exact one, but they must have disontinued it, so I found this one, Nelson 50116. I have to say, it is almost idential to the super rugged Select-a spray I had for years. The only diffrence if the spray pattern that I liked most was deleted, which was the fan spray, which cleand off soap from my car lighting fast. But oh well, the shower works ok too, just not as forcefull, so it takes more time to clean.

I drop this new one on the cement, the kids play with it, the patterns are plenty, and there is a pressure dial on top to allow watering plants, feather soft.

I wouold highly reccomend this nozzle, I have tried the brass ones, which fall apart with enough drops to the concrete, I have tried the trigger sparys which leak after a few drops to the floor, and pressure is awful, I have tried cheap sprayers, but they fail almost after the first month...

If you want a solid sprayer with much potential, get this.

*** Update 12-19-2011

Ok. well it lasted the summer of 2010 and 2011... So now the turret is starting to get loose, but it still works... It dosen't click anymore though.. But hey for $11 bucks.. I'll order another one. : )

Seems to be a very sturdy product and wouldn't be surprised if it survives numerous drops and maybe even being run over by a car? You know, the normal abuse that a hose nozzle endures during the summer months. Still not sure how the trigger can move so little, yet the stream and operation is so predictable. Was expecting it to be a little difficult to keep from accidentally discharging, but not so. Very good product that requires virtually no effort to use, while still giving a decent amount of feel and modulation to the trigger.

Sprayer did not come with gasket which made the sprayer leak until we realized the problem. After we inserted a gasket between sprayer and hose it worked fine. The trigger mechanism is a bit wobbly but once you are used to it, it is also fine. If you have very small hands this nozzle seems to be a bit large so I would not recommend it, I have a bit of arthritis in my hands and they tend to get very tired if I have to hold the nozzle for a longer period of time. For smaller hands I would recommend a different nozzle. I do like the different types of sprays which work really well and the ability to adjust them is terrific.

I bought this because our last nozzle broke after rusting over the winter. The last one had the trigger on the back and when I would drop it, it would squirt out water (even hit me in the face a couple times). You would think I'd learn not to drop it.

This one doesn't do that and all the functions work as expected.

My wife even commented that she loves this sprayer. We have had it for 3 weeks of heavy usage (just got new trees) and would buy it again!

Hope this helps.

I ordered two of these nozzles the first week of May. Initially, I was quite pleased with them as they seemed sturdy and were a fairly good price. But today I noticed that BOTH nozzles had severe cracks in them. Granted, our temperatures are in the 100's right now - but seriously to start cracking in a little over 2 MONTHS???!!

This was a purchase to replace a Nelson spray nozzle that worked flawlessly for 7 years. I really like the front trigger design and wide variety of spray types. After reading other reviews here, I decided to try this nozzle. The ones at my local Lowe's were underwhelming even given their wide selection. Well good news my friends, Nelson has greatly improved what was already a great product. The MIST setting is truly a mist. RINSE and POWER WASH are both jets of water in case you need to defend yourself from attackers with supersoakers. SHOWER and DRIZZLE are great for watering ground plants and plots. SOAKER is a new setting that dribbles out a low pressure flow of water perfect for watering a potted plant.

The other major upgrade is with the flow control. It uses a dial type knob to go from wide open down to about 10%. This is really great for watering plants. You are able to get the water where you want it and not where you do not water. NOTE: The flow control knob is where the old nozzle had a catastrophic failure that necessitated the purchase of a replacement so I was very happy to see a new and different design.

The nozzle feels sturdy and well made. It is very comfortable in the hand. I prefer the front trigger design, even though it requires more intelligent engineering to work. This is a well made and well designed nozzle.

The nozzle this is replacing was a 5 star nozzle, IMHO. I wish I could give this nozzle 6 stars, it is easily a full star better than the Nelson model it replaces.
