Book Description

July 14, 2006
Cas Larkin is running for Sheriff of Pine County again, unopposed but grateful for the turnout to vote for him and the new Pine County Judge. His wife, Connie, quits her job in nearby Ft. Craig to stay at home and work part-time in Maryvale. Cas, busy with a new murder case nods his approval and is promptly rewarded by Fate with another dead body to worry about. Though the first victim has family in Maryvale the second victim is a complete stranger. There is no similarity at all except dope. Both were users, and Cas looks for a connection as he investigates. Meanwhile, romantic Connie, impressed with the lovely portrait of Mary Lou Nelson for whom Maryvale was named, decides to look up the Nelson's family history and the vague but lingering rumor of a scandal and even more interesting rumors of Mary Lou's romance with a handsome young Frenchman. The library basement where Connie searches through old newspapers is full of promising research material but a miserable place to be. It is bone chilling cold and there is the almost inaudible sound of a young woman crying. Could the library basement be haunted? Will Connie find out what really happened betwen Mary Lou Nelson and her handsome French lover, Louis deVille? Can Cas find the connection between his two murder cases? Cas and Connie use hot clues and cold paper trails in their investigation of four murders, two of them more than a hundred years old.

PS: With my other cozy mystery series- romance/suspense series; and the Chris and Duff Insurance series there are plenty of good cozies to choose from and all at reader-friendly prices. There are also romance/suspense stand alone novels and more of them will be coming. So watch for them as I said, in all genres. In fact, it looks like it's about impossible to get away from me since I have novels in several genres in every format (currently) known to man. LOL.

Brief Bio:
Hello fellow readers and writers. I'm a 'southern' author: born in Hot Springs, Arkansas; grew up in Memphis, Tennessee; and now live with my family in Arkansas near Little Rock. All my books but one take place in the south. Though I'm published in several genres my favorites are cozy mysteries and romance/suspense.They are listed on Amazon; B&N and can be ordered from book stores (no S&H if you pick up the book at the Book store, just like Amazon). The onlyl way I heard about this is a reader came to me with one she'd ordered from B&N and was glad to see she could do this (so was I :-). Nearly all of my list is available as e-books.
Please come visit my page and blog. You can always find my books here on Amazon so your comments and input is welcome and appreciated.I love meeting fellow readers and writers.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed for Midwest Book Review, May 2, 2007
This review is from: The Nelson Scandal (Paperback)
Pine County Sheriff Cas Larkin is investigating two homicides, one man killed by blunt force trauma, the other shot. Although there is nothing to tie the two men together other than they were both drug users, Cas suspects their murders are connected. Cas's wife Connie becomes interested in Edgar T. Nelson, founding father of their small town of Maryvale, and his daughter Mary Lou. Rumor has it that after Mary Lou ran off to marry a Frenchman, Nelson shot himself and Mary Lou never returned home. Connie finds dated material about the Nelsons in the basement of the town's library, and while exploring hears someone crying. However, no one else is in the basement with her. Strange things begin happening in the library and several people think it may be haunted. When a medium confirms this, Connie begins to investigate who might be haunting the library and why, which leads to past murders that tie into the present two her husband is investigating.

Griffey has written a highly entertaining story, incorporating small-town charm with loveable primary and secondary characters wrapped around two interconnecting mysteries. The Nelson Scandal is part of a series that promises to snag readers' interests and not let go, with nicely developed characters, appealing locale, and the unique juxtaposition of a professional investigator paired with an amateur sleuth.
