I agree with the first reviewer, however I found this book comprehensive and up to date enough to give it a five stars. It contained many obscure entries including an entry on the Waldensians (Waldenses), which although was not exhaustive and left out some noteworthy things about them, still had information about them that I was not aware of.

This book's subtitle is "The Authoritative Resource on the Christian World" which may or may not be true depending on one's view of other books in the field. For instance, Oxford has an entry in this field which is exhaustive, but it also costs $150. Nelson's book covers many of the same topics, but at a fraction of the cost. Perhaps Nelson should change their subtitle to the "Affordable Resource . . ."

But all kidding aside, this book has much to offer. It covers church personalities past and present, the many church councils throughout history, and various church topics. It is not to be taken lightly. For the casual researcher, it offers brief yet informative descriptions of the topics it covers. For the scholar, it provides intellectual insight.

Church libaries would do well to stock this volume. Again, it won't consume the entire library budget in one purchase.
