3.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible -- but poor printing
I have great respect for the editorial team that put together the study notes for this Bible. The study notes and charts are quite good. The Introductions to each book are very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Bible!, November 5, 2005

This review is from: Nelson's NKJV Study Bible - Large Print (Hardcover)
After I learned that Nelson was going to come out with a large print edition of the Nelson Study Bible, I eagerly awaited its arrival and purchased the hardback edition from Amazon.com. I own and read just about every study bible out there including the Life Application Study Bible, the NIV Study Bible, the Ryrie Study Bible, the Quest Study Bible, the New Oxford Annotated Bible, the Inductive Study Bible, as well as the Nelson Study Bible (regular print). I also have these bibles in just about every version. Without question, the Nelson Study Bible is the very best.

The large print Nelson Study Bible comes in a 10 point font for easy reading and has all the same features as the regular print edition. This bible has over 15,000 expository study notes, 350 Word Focus Word Studies, 100 In-Depth articles, center-column references, a subect index, a huge concordance (nearly 200 pages!), over 80 maps, 80 Quick View Charts, 8 Full Bible Summary Sections, and much more.

If you're looking for a downside to this bible I can only mention two: (1) this bible is very large and weighs over 5 pounds. It's not one that you will want to carry around with you. (2) As with most study bibles, the margins could be wider for note taking. I do wish the margins were as wide as those in the Inductive Study Bible. Nevertheless, all the other features rates this one 5 stars.

I will mention that I was a little hesitant to order this bible after reading a comment by a previous reviewer (leather-bound edition) stating that the printing ink was inconsistent from one page to the other. He indicated that one page would be readable, but then on the opposite page the ink was so light as to be illegible. But I've skimmed through every page in its 2450 pages and have not seen this problem at all.

Bottom-line is this: if you want an outstanding study bible, in a large print, based on the Byzantine Greek manuscripts . . . this is THE bible for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, March 7, 2006

How does one critique the inerrant word of God? Well, you do it with the most detailed blueprint available. Nelson's NKJV Study Bible, large print, is outstanding. The illustrations are abundant and colorful. The mapping is thorough and appropriately assigned to the timelines in question. The word focus is on point and informative. The language is still beautifully couched in Elizabethan English but streamlined to eliminate some of the more archaic usage. The poetic harmony of the NKJV is enhanced by the large script which supports easier, faster reading and absorbtion. And the notes; they are magnificant. How do I know; I have a Matthew Henry; a DAKE; a MacArthur and a Ryrie, all of which are excellent Study Bibles. The notes are good in all but they are over the top in the Nelson. Oh and by the way, I am well aware of the fact that the KJV is the Byzantine Text or Textus Receptus (some call it the majority text) which has received some negative press by those who prefer to hang their hat on Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus; that perhaps editorial license and interpolation was taken by some over zealous scribes some few hundred years ago and that Nestle Aland and Westcott & Hort's Text should be the scriptural searchlight for all future issues. Folks, I have a Life Application Study Bible, NLT and I love it but to all of those of us who love literary masterpeices, I ask you to consider Shakespeare in "dynamic functional equivalence". This Nelson NKJV is a fabulous product that just plain feels good everytime I pick its big old body up. Thanks Nelson!

I have great respect for the editorial team that put together the study notes for this Bible. The study notes and charts are quite good. The Introductions to each book are very good.

Because the original edition of the NKJV Study Bible utilized very small print, I was looking forward to the publication of this large-print edition. In fact, our family now owns two copies of the large-print edition.

Unfortunately, the more we have used them, the more we have noticed how poor the printing is. In both Bibles, many pages have faded print -- almost like the printer was running out of ink. In many cases, one page of the opened Bible is much lighter than the opposite page. In some cases, the print on a page is so light that it appears light gray instead of black.

This is sad, only because this COULD be a great Bible. As it is, I've decided to no longer use it. The poor printing too often detracts from Bible reading.

I read the previous reviewers' comments and weighed them carefully before I ordered my copy. I'm very pleased with this study Bible and its concise notes printed in a very comfortable font (for an over-50 lady in trifocals) . It's ALL there with something for study on every page. And, no, I don't carry it around with me, either, but that's not a problem. It won't blow away! Very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Study Bible Available, December 28, 2005
This is by far the Best Study Bible I have found. Every page is a wealth of information, not only the Words of our Lord, but also the added features such as study notes and word focus. And the New King James Version is very readable! If you want a study Bible to help you learn more about God's Words to us today, this is the one to get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Large Print Bible, July 9, 2007

Unfortunately, for some surely idiotic reason, this Bible is no longer in print. It is very large and heavy, but the print, while not exactly large, is largER than the standard size Bible of this title. The binding is sewn!!!! Most unusual on a Nelson Bible, but considering the size of the book, their normal glue surely wouldn't hold. The annotations, charts, and articles are undeniably superb in that sense of the word. This is a Bible worth having, especially if you enjoy larger print, as I do. The shame about it is that you will now have to locate it on used book websites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent content; good study bible; not-so-good cover, December 4, 2009
This review is from: Nelson's NKJV Study Bible - Large Print (Hardcover)
Pros:
- Large print; although superscripts and references are tiny, with a blue background in the center column
- Interesting tables.
- extensive comments
- Just went through a re-analysis of the NKJV, especially verses the ESV. Our church is "adopting" the ESV, and after my analysis I prefer the NKJV even more!
- Some commented on thin paper with bleed-through, I don't think it is a problem.

Cons:
- Pretty low-end binding/cover, not a big deal for me.
- Some goofy articles and sections that, in my opinion, don't belong in a bible. Just extra weight for something you might not ever read. Maybe study bible marketeers have a check list of stuff buyers want, but never use. Kind of like sun roofs in cars. Or jacuzzi bathtubs.
- Size, but ok for me 'cuz you gotta have all that stuff in BIG PRINT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bible, March 3, 2008
This is a great study bible. I love all the references and the outline of the context. The large print is especially easy on the eyes. I especially like the NKJV.
