4.0 out of 5 stars A Golden Little Book
I accidently stumbled upon this wonderful commentary weeks ago. I am glad God led me to it. I am becoming a much more serious student of God's word. 3.0 out of 5 stars Can't get around in the Kindle version
Maybe I am missing something, but when I try to search this Kindle book for a specific chapter I get another book instead. It is frustrating to try and find the verse and chapter that I want to read without having to go through the whole book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Golden Little Book, October 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
I accidently stumbled upon this wonderful commentary weeks ago. I am glad God led me to it. I am becoming a much more serious student of God's word. But I enjoy reading commentaries that are not complicated. Warren Wiersbe has been able to share wonderful insights from the Word of God, while giving the reader credible facts that are easy to read. His reflections and thought provoking questions have been very moving. What I enjoy the most, is having a commentary I can actually carry around in my bag. I am constantly on the go. I love reading it while I am on the train, bus, the Bible study at my job, on the plane, etc. I would definitely recommend this commentary as a gift for a new believer. It would make a wonderful companion to the regular Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little book with giant-sized help!, October 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
I love this little reference book. Wiersbe does a fine job of synthesizing each book of the Bible, and then each of its chapters, in small, readable chunks, establishing essence in a few short sentences, with Biblical cross-references where appropriate. In some instances he poses thoughtful questions and includes inspirational quotations. I've just begun teaching a Bible Study class and have found both commentary and synopses invaluable. For its size, this book is jam-packed with useful resources. I recommend it to anyone who wants to increase understanding of the Bible.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a Christian Perspective, May 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
A superb help understanding the Holy Text especially Exodus, Leviticus & Numbers (the Jewish Pentauch) which are usually out of reach & incomprehensible to most modern Christians. I read the Chapter commentary BEFORE I read the Bible & it helps me understand what's about to come. It also points to references within the Bible so I can get a full view of what I am reading & what is the context for what is happening. For the price it is unbeatable. Buy & you'll find yourself reading the Bible with pleasure not duty. Mr Wiersbe has done a magnificent job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Short, Quick Reference, September 21, 2008
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
This reference book is just what is says; a quick reference. Each chapter is summarized in a paragraph or so. It is short and to the point. If your looking for deep elaboration, you may want to look to something else. If this is what you are looking for, it is excellent. Observations are biblically accurate and faith based, although slightly conservative.

5.0 out of 5 stars A recommended 7-year Sunday School curriculum, August 8, 2008
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
When Dr. Wiersbe was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, KY (Cincinnati)he expanded a curriculum started by his predecessor, and as a result a 7-year Sunday School curriculum. I have been in churches that purchased 2 volumne set of 3-ring binders for both the Old and New Testaments. Each week the Sunday School teachers met together and were taught the lesson; and, they in turn did their own personal study and preparation for the lesson. Wiersbe has a scholar's mind and a pastor's heart and his down-to-earth appeal is historic. Minister's know him as the "pastor's pastor." While space does not permit touching on problem passages, whether one uses the book for personal study, a teaching outline, they can get a thorough survey of the Bible from a dispensational point of view.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work well on Kindle, October 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book, Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary [Kindle Edition], is the exact same text as With the Word: The Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Handbook - Warren Wiersbe. But the "Nelson's Quick Reference" doesn't work well on Kindle. It is very slow, doesn't have a Table of Context that can be clicked on to get to a specific chapter of the bible, but "With the Word" works great. So if you want this book get the "With the Word" version and it'll run great on your Kindle.

I am giving the Kindle edition only 2 stars but the book itself is wonderful as a devotional commentary that deserves 5 stars. It gives a break down of every chapter in the bible that is both educational and applicational.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great handy small book!, September 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nelson's Quick Reference Chapter-by-Chapter Bible Commentary: Nelson's Quick Reference Series (Paperback)
This handy small book serves as a good, biblical quick reference to understanding the bible. It gives brief yet insightful & practical summary-like spiritual lessons for each chapter of the bible w/ scripture reference. And here & there, maybe every 5 or so chapters, there is a box of a relevant specific spiritual truth w/ useful bible references. If you want more info/details, this book is not what you should be looking for, you can try Wiersbe Bible Commentary 2 Vol Set (which I do not own but has great reviews) or my family's favorite: Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible
