4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price
These shorts keep my seat comfortable during intermediate rides (roughly 30 miles). I ordered a size small which is what I usually wear, I have a 29 inch waist. They are a chore to get around the hips as the waistband offers little flex. But once around my waist they fit true to the Nema sizing chart. The side pockets are located where they ought to be and keep small...

1.0 out of 5 stars Waistband design problem
As mentioned by the two (as of this writing, Oct 2010) previous reviewers, the waistband of these shorts does not flex, does not expand as you put them on. It's like trying to put pants on with the top button and fly already closed. I have a 33" waist and ordered the medium. I don't know what my hips measure but they're larger than my waist. It was only with great struggle and jumping up and down that I squeezed my butt through the waistband and got them on. They fit ok then. The problem is that when nature calls on the trails, I would have to again struggle, with the requisite jumping, to slip the shorts down far enough to go. This would no doubt provide great entertainment for my fellow riders. I cannot imagine how they designed these with such a ridiculous flaw. Returned immediately.

2.0 out of 5 stars Size chart lies, November 29, 2009

I ordered "large", and according to the Amazon size chart, that should fit a 36 to 38 waste. I like my pants loose, so size 36 is generally what I wear in jeans and other pants. I was barely able to get these pants above my knees. They are nice looking, and I wish they would fit but they won't, I really tried. I'll give them to one of my skinnier friends. I checked the Backcountry website and for these pants, a person with a 36 waste should order XL. I ordered another pair directly from the Backcountry website.
