5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for library or classroom, November 3, 2011
This review is from: Nematodes, Leeches, and Other Worms (Animal Kingdom Classification) (Library Binding)
This is a stunning book, part of a series of `Animal Kingdom Classification'. A `pre-title page' gives credit to impressive content and science advisers. The title page, and each page thereafter, contains excellent, unique and fascinating up-close photography, the likes of which make one want to read the captions (equally interesting and impressive) as well as the text. Upon reading this book you'll discover everything you really didn't want to know about worms! Attractive color coding of boarders and headers, as well as pages where text is sometimes white on black, as well as black on white, unify the layout. The text is large, attractive and varied. Overall, in only 48 pages, this book will satisfy the `impress-me-this-minute" generation. A Table of Contents outlines (each in a two page spread) an Introduction and each Chapter, as well as a Glossary, Index and Further Resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nematodes, Leeches, and Other Worms Review, September 15, 2011

This review is from: Nematodes, Leeches, and Other Worms (Animal Kingdom Classification) (Library Binding)
I was very pleased with this book. Personally, I used it for research for my elementary/middle school classes for our unit on simple invertebrates. Since I have a large class I couldn't use it as a read-aloud, but it would be perfect for a parent looking for a nice read-aloud book to use with their kids. It has beautiful pictures and gives more information that your usual picture book aimed at elementary grades. I learned about many worms that I did not know even existed and it prompted me to do more research on them and then create a game called "Worm Zoo" (which I will make available to the general public on my educational resources website ellenjmchenry.com). I also created a classification chart activity that helps kids really understand all the phyla into which worms are classified (also downloadable). I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a book for elementary or middle grades that is more than just a simple pictures book.
