This review is from: Nemesis The Wizardry Adventure (CD-ROM)
In the days before computer games hit mainstream and were not catoring to microsuck's X-Box or cheap consoles, games were actually deep and adult compaired to the kiddie consoles. Though we did have an "invasion" of console game/PC conversions even then as Questbuster Magazine(now defunct itself) called that plight, it was the consoles, not the PC that got the short end of it.(rightly so). Nemesis is a sort of add in(though not add on) game to the Wizardry saga. As in a twist of irony, Zork's own subtitle Nemisis was not related to the Zork series, this too, is not Wizardry, and is not related very closely, but takes place in the same universe. You play a specific story driven protagonist, not a group of custom characters you create yourself. I must admit, when this was released I didn't like it, but I was spoiled and compared to modern games, this is a picturesque gem. Despite the fact you play a rather whiney Micheal Landon-looking character in frumpy pissaunt garb, who complains more about rickety sign posts in towne than he does monsters attacking him, it is still a fun game to play. The dialogue can get a bit cheesy, but to me, it's just a big laugh and a lot of fun anyway. The scenes are picturesqe, sometihng the 3d modern artists could learn from. Kids these days can't write or draw pretty pictures! Bah! Humbug!
Why then only four stars? Because even though it has aged a bit like fine wine, Wizardry's pure saga(I-VII, not VIII with it's stupid voice acting) is still loads better! However, if you wish to go back to those days of yore in the early nineties, get this on e-bay or from the sellers cause you ain't get'n it retail!
