5.0 out of 5 stars Review from a Philippine Nena Fan Who Knows German, June 4, 2001
By
Glenn (San Juan, Metropolitan Manila, Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
This is the first album of the original Nena band, whose members were Gabrielle Susanne "Nena" Kerner( Vocals ), Rolf Brendel( Drums ), Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen( Keyboards ), Juergen Dehmel( Bass ), and Carlo Karges( Lead Guitar ). It contains the following songs:

1. Kino 2. Indianer 3. Vollmond 4. Nur getraeumt 5. Tanz auf dem Vulkan 6. 99 Luftballons 7. Zaubertrick 8. Einmal ist keinmal 9. Leuchtturm 10. Ich bleib' im Bett 11. Noch einmal 12. Satellitenstadt

The most popular song of this album is undoubtedly "99 Luftballons", which became a number one hit worldwide in 1984. It is currently still the only German-language pop hit to ever achieve this status. Although I personally like every song found in this album, the songs "Kino", "Vollmond", "Nur getraeumt", and "Leuchtturm" particularly stand out as excellent songs for me. Therefore, I highly recommend this album to everyone--both Nena and non-Nena fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nena!, May 7, 2004
By
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
Nena has to be one of the best singers to come out of Germany! (Isn't she the only one? Hmm...) I love Nena and all of her music! I definetly recommend buying this album in Addition to Fragezeichen! (Don't buy the US release of 99 Luftballons.. no lyrics :-( cheaply made)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ich haeng immer noch an dir!, April 22, 2002
By
Lefteris Lalos "LL" (Athens, Attica, Hellas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
At first I must confess this: As a teen I was crazy about Nena and in a sense I still am. She really haunted my puberty phantasies. I still have this image of her, wearing her favorite T-shirt with her favorite Stones trademark (the
famous tongue, Andy Warhol's design). I lived for three years
in Germany, so I was familiar with the language by the time
this LP got out. My criteria then were different than today,
but I still think this is a magnificent LP / CD.
This is definitely no concept album. It travels through all
kinds of sceneries from power pop (Kino) to American country rock (Vollmond, a fantastic tune!) and from straight rock
(Noch Einmal) to kitsch (Indianer).
Their famous anti-war classic 99 Luftballons may be one of
the most successful songs of the 80's all over the world,
but there are a lot of tunes that deserve some attention
over here. Simple & powerful Nur Getraumt (Nena's first
super hit in Germany) is reason enough to hit the dancefloor,

Leuchtturm is a catchy pop masterpiece that grows into you
and my personal favorite her little reggae yawn Ich Bleib
Im Bett, not exactly what you expect to come out of a German
band. All in all this is an outstanding effort from
Nena (it's also the band's name) but if you don't speak
the language or don't intend to learn German in the near
future you better think twice. However stay away from
any English version of Nena's songs, cause you won't get
the right feeling out of them not to mention the sour taste
in your mouth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review by a Philippine Nena fan who understands German, May 31, 2001
By
Glenn (San Juan, Metropolitan Manila, Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
This album is the first one released by the former German music band Nena. It contains twelve songs: "Kino"( Cinema ), "Indianer"( Indians ), "Vollmond"( Full Moon ), "Nur getrauemt"( Only Dreamt ), "Tanz auf dem Vulkan"( Dance on the Volcano--Playing With Fire ), "99 Luftballons"( 99 Air Balloons ), "Zaubertrick"( Magic Trick ), "Einmal ist keinmal"( One Time Is No Time ), "Leuchtturm"( Lighthouse ), "Ich bleib' im Bett"( I Stay/Remain in Bed ), "Noch einmal"( Still/Yet One More Time ), and "Satellitenstadt"( Satellite City ). Undoubtedly the most commercially successful album of this band, NENA has several wonderful songs and there is a great variation in style among the songs in this album. Of the twelve songs of this album, five also became part of the original soundtrack of the German film "Gib Gas, ich will Spass"( Give Gas, I Want Fun ) in which the German music artists Markus Moerl, Enny Gerber( of the former German music band Morgenrot--Morning Red in English ), and Nena Kerner( the lead singer of the former Nena band ) starred. These five songs are "Indianer", "Vollmond", "Nur getraeumt", "Tanz auf dem Vulkan" and "Leuchtturm". The most popular song on this album is undoubtedly "99 Luftballons", which became the very first German-language pop hit to become number one worldwide and no other German-language pop song has achieved that status since then. Three of the songs found in this album also have English-language counterparts: "Kino"( "At the Movies" ), "Nur getraeumt"( "Just A Dream" ), and "99 Luftballons"( "99 Red Balloons" ). I highly recommend this album to everyone, not only to Nena fans, but also to non-Nena fans who really appreciate music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early work, July 8, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
This CD is a collection of early works by Nena and her excellent band. It seems they are testing the waters here for different directions, and most of it is very 'eighties.' But a few songs already navigate toward the sound and content which I love on later CDs. Her best work, IMO, is on the CD "Willst Du Mit Mir Gehn," which was created 20 years later. But if you're a fan, you'll find this CD quite enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1st Nena Band CD, February 1, 2003
This review is from: Nena (Audio CD)
This is the first album of the Nena Band. I believe that most of the people are familiar with this album in the world - as this LP was probably sold in the most amount of copies.
No other song was ever written that would resemble to the harmonies and catchy sound of Nur Getraumt. Great job Nena Band!
This album is simply a MUST HAVE. Nena is so much more than 99 Luftballons! The true fans know that! ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD if you know German!, July 20, 1998
By A Customer
I actually picked this one up when I was in Germany. The German lyrics are great if you can understand them and most of the songs have some surprisingly good guitar sound to them. Definitely recommended for your German rock collection - Not quite the Hosen, but good stuff.
