Fatal Smile is here to ROCK!!!,
By
This review is from: Neo Natural Freaks (Audio CD)
I am absolutely loving the fact that real rock & roll music is starting to make a comeback. All across the globe bands are springing up to remind people that rock & roll used to be FUN, and can make you feel good. One of the best of this new breed of real rock & rollers is Sweden's Fatal Smile, who has a hard charging yet melodic hard rock sound that is somewhere between Motorhead and Twisted Sister.2006's Neo Natural Freaks is Fatal Smile's second album, and it's a monster of a rock album. It's a very heavy album, but with plenty of great melodies. It definitely leans more towards a metal style, but there's a strong arena rock vibe as well. Highlights are the fast paced title track, the crushingly heavy Practice What You Preach, and the single Learn-Love-Hate. This isn't a throwback or novelty album by any means. It's a back to basics melodic hard rock album that those of use who were raised on radio in the 80's will find both recognizable and refreshing, and one you'll want to have blasting from your car stereo over and over again. PS - You have to give these guys credit for coming all the way to America for extensive touring in front of audiences that were by and large unfamiliar with them. I caught them opening for Doro at a poorly attended show last week, and was pleased to see that 1) they were as good live as they are on CD and 2) by the end of their set you could tell they made some new fans.

Over the last several years the European rock has really kicked butt!! Especially groups from Sweden. Fatal Smile is one the best I have heard with their killer vocals and heavy guitars. Some groups come out sounding like everyone else but these guys have a style all their own. Check 'em out.
