5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Puzzle Toy
Customer Video Review     Length:: 2:23 Mins
I bought this from Bravofun! It's exactly what I was expecting. Here's a video of me with it after 4 days. I never tried one before.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I purchaced the NeoCube for my boyfriend because he loves puzzles and he really liked the NanoDots I had purchaced for myself. Seeing as how the Neocube was a little cheaper and practically the same thing as my Nanodots, I figured I'd go for it. I opened the boy which it was poorly packaged in and checked it out to see if everything was okay with it. Compared to other...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Puzzle Toy, July 28, 2010

I bought this from Bravofun! It's exactly what I was expecting. Here's a video of me with it after 4 days. I never tried one before.

The first day was extremely frustrating. Took me over an hour just to make the cube. Finally got it and just kept doing it over and over until it became second nature. By far the most difficult thing was splitting the cube. After repeated attempts for a day, I couldn't get it at all. Studied a bunch of youtube videos(no one seems to explain it right), and finally got it. Had to repeat it a bunch of times(And mess up the cube a lot) before it became very easy to perform. My secret is to use your nails, go along the center and not apply any downward pressure(one axis will be easier to part then others. Don't force them open. Just move to a different side if its not parting). Only try to push apart. Once you get it slightly open on the end, place your thumb in to hold it. Slide you fingers along the edge and part two sides. The center magnets should stick to the sides stronger then the balls across from them (because of the magnetic poles) creating a clean break. Splitting the rectangle is very much the same.

Patience is always good to have when you start.

Building the other shapes using pentagons and triangles is easy and can probably be achieved after viewing other people creating them on youtube. Just pay attention and you'll get them on the first try.

Great seller with fast shipping and a good product. Cheaper then the other Neocubes on here as of the moment. Highly recommended.

I picked this up for myself as a present to myself this season and after spending a few hours online debating it I jumped the gun. The "puzzle" as they call it plays out just as they describe it. It's a lot of fun, although I would not recommend trying to fool around with it in a busy place, it's easy to lose one of the magnets if you accidentally drop one (although it is really difficult to do this, the magnetic attraction between them is fairly strong). I love trying to challenge myself to make difficult shapes such as the cube, hexagon, etc. There are multiple ways you can go about at creating these shapes so it's always a challenge to find the quickest way. I showed this to a cousin of mine (not in any shape, all the magnets were grouped together in a ball) and I told him I'll show him the cube. He didn't believe me at first that you could use these balls to form a cube, but a minute later I showed him the finished result. You can really let your imagination run free with this product and is a great small gift to give to anyone. My brothers were constantly taking it away from me and we are well beyond our teen years. It's a puzzle for everyone (simple as that).

Those wondering about Bucky Balls vs NeoCube: Bucky Balls are just the more expensive version (same magnets..) that ThinkGeek sells, get these from Amazon, you won't be disappointed.

Saw it at a friend's place and immediately had to order it. It is a fantastic new kind of puzzle which took me quite some time to figure out. Done with building the cube, I proceeded to build a plethora of other shapes, and after months of usage I still find new combinations and varieties.
This toy is not for young children! They love it, but it is dangerous to swallow 2 or more strong magnets.

Best toy I have ever had! Always a hit in a get-together!

This is a very fun product, the magnets are very strong, and it comes with extras. Limitless fun.

A word of warning - keep these far away from any and all electronics. They're neodymium. They WILL kill your phone, computer, tv, or whatever else.

I opened the boy which it was poorly packaged in and checked it out to see if everything was okay with it. Compared to other magnetic puzzle toys like this one, the NeoCube is a big disappointment. The strength of the magnets is way too weak, its frustrating trying to make ANY kind of shape and the packaged box the toy was in practically fell apart in my hand. I really wouldnt recommend this puzzle toy.

I just received these as a Christmas present and have done little else the past few days. This is a great present for true nerds and geeks or anyone that likes to build things themselves. They are small -- the cube is probably a square inch (which makes each ball about a pica, for you layout geeks), but they are incredibly strong.

If you get it or give it to someone be sure to check out videos on youtube -- the balls are very frustrating at first because they do not come with any directions and the polarity makes it counter intuitive about how to make objects.

Squeezing things into shape will never, ever work. It turns out that for almost any object you want to make -- cube, sphere, icosahedron, etc. you make by first assembling small "components" for the bigger objects. It is very easy to make pentagons, hexagons, triangles, or flat sheets of balls that you can then assemble into larger and more complex shapes.

They are an absolute blast for someone of the right mindset, but I can see how they'd be incredibly annoying for plenty of other people.

While fun to play with for a few minutes, repeated use (and I mean brief repeated use in the office over a period of <5 days) results in the flaking off of silver paint. Since the documentation states to discontinue use once the paint rubs off because long term direct exposure to rare earth magnets may be dangerous, this pretty much makes the item worthless. Not to mention I have no idea what hands covered in flaking silver paint may do to you.

Additionally, these are very tiny magnets. You may get a lot of them, but they are < pea sized.

I would not have ordered these had I known the quality of the product and would advise you not to either.

They are very addicting and the concept is great but i guess going with this cheaper version of the "Bucky Ballz" they are not good quailty after only having them for a month they are chipping and they leave black residue on your fingers.

My husband is a magnet fanatic and he has become quite addicted to making different shapes with these balls. They allow you to be quite creative with your building. The only downside is that we have lost of few - it's easy to do since they are so small. Plus, he read that they are quite dangerous if someone swallows them because they can attract across linings of organs - so be careful around animals or small children. Otherwise, they have provided hours of entertainment for my husband and kids (ages 9 and 11).

Its a great toy/puzzle for about a week. After a weeks use i started to notice tiny silver particles on my hands from using the magnets So i had to stop playing/building with the magnets, unfortunately because of this I don't think it is worth the 25 dollars you have to pay. Perhaps another manufacturer might be better.
