Product Description

ONE lot of 10 Magnets. Size: 1/2 inch diameter x 1/2 inch thick discs. Nickel (Ni) Plated (silver-like shine) Grade: N48 - Extremely powerful magnetic material Pull Force is approximately 6.1 pounds under ideal conditions. These discs are axially magnetized, so the strong North/South poles are in the center of the flat sides. That makes them easier to stack into a cylinder than to connect side by side. The metal coating is durable, but ALL Neodymium magnets can chip or shatter. If used gently, these magnets can serve you for a lifetime.

Forget those wussy refrigerator magnets that'll barely hold up a sheet of paper. These 1/2" neodymium discs can supervise a 12-month calendar, your hand towel, pot holders, your heaviest kitchen knife, and the family cat. Holding knives is where they go to town. You don't need one of those bulky, unattractive counter-top knife quivers that take up so much space; slap these 1/2" disc magnets on the side of the fridge and stick your knife-blades to them. Those strip magnets made for holding knives work well, but they have to be mounted somewhere; the disc magnets don't, and they can be moved around. I've been using them this way for years, and they're the best. The knives are in easy reach, and the edges never touch anything that can dull them down. You pluck the knife you want, and the magnet stays put.

Other uses I rely on: Sticking a pen to the fridge. For sewing, holding scissors, pins, and items that you want handy. Hanging a curtain on a steel door. For home office area, they're great if you have any metal desktop organizers, but keep them away from jump drives and computer hard drive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Powerful but Fragile July 9, 2010
These little magnets all arrived in very good condition. I have no disappointment with either their manufacture or their delivery. They are extraordinarily powerful little magnets, so much so that they're very difficult to pull apart, and they jump together very suddenly and solidly. Therein lies the problem: they're rather fragile, damaging and breaking easily. They are still a good purchase, all in all, just be as careful as possible with them.

These very strong magnets are cool for craft projects. Strong pull even with wood laminations over it.

I've had these magnets for a while they serve the purpose I got them for. They are strong neodymium magnets. Just don't let your fingers get caught between them or they will hurt you.
Update: These magnets break in pieces around the round edges so perhaps they're not real neodymiums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very strong - very small and light October 18, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
These are about the largest neodymium magnets you will want to purchase for any normal everyday task. They are a half inch in diameter, but their pull force is something on the order of 8 or 10 pounds. They are difficult (but not impossible) to pull apart with your bare hands. Most people will need to slide them across the fridge to the edge to get them off (and possibly scratch the fridge). These are right on the safe side of the line between fun magnets you can play with and those that will take off your finger.

Note that these are an N48, which is near the top of neodymium strength. The scale of commercially available magnets runs from about N35 to N52. Thus, at the 1/2 by 1/18 disc size, this is nearly the strongest magnet you can buy.

I should note that the price here (at about a buck a magnet) is pretty competitive. Other online sources have them a few cents more or less per magnet - depending on quantity.

These work great until they impact each other and shatter; it does not take much for these to break especially when they collide from such strong magnetic forces.

5.0 out of 5 stars These babies are strong May 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I took two stacks of six, and they opened my freezer door.

If I wave the like pole sides together, I can feel the repelling force a good two inches away.

If you take two stacks of two each, and put them on either side of your nose, they work as nose plugs.

In all seriousness, I got them to epoxy to a fan to create a stir plate.

Shipping was quite long. 20 days. This might be the longest of any order I've placed on Amazon. But, the product is exactly as indicated, came with a little plastic case, and they threw in a couple extras. They do explain how to not chip these... but the couple extra they put in make me want to test how fragile they are. So far I've accidentally let them smack together several times (easy to do, they're strong), and they haven't chipped yet. I suspect I'm pressing my luck, but I have been fairly cautioned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful! April 4, 2012

These magnets are incredibly powerful! Only 4 stars because they are easily chipped. We use these on our wall that we painted with several very thin layers of magnetic primer and covered with 3 or 4 layers of chalkboard paint. They work perfectly! They have the strength to hold a couple of sheets of paper or a Christmas card even though the magnetic primer doesn't have nearly as much attraction as the fridge (they're almost too strong for the fridge). Also, we had family over a couple weekends ago and the nephews (4-6) had a blast playing around with them and the smaller 1/8" cube magnets.
