5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality joystick! Works on both PS3 & PC too! December 23, 2012
By Jimmy
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The manufacturer stated it's a faithful 1:1 design of the original including using the same joystick lever & buttons...and it's VERY close! In fact, it's better than what I expected since you can use this joystick on a Playstion 3 & supposedly on a PC (read about this but haven't tried it out myself yet). The balltop's glued on (in addition to being screwed on) since they claim the balltop kept on getting loose during their testing. The joystick lever uses microswitches made by Omron (who makes the microswitches found in Sanwa joystick levers but not the same exact model). I haven't confirmed if Omron makes the microswitches on the buttons yet.

FWIW, the original Neo Geo AES joystick lever used Matsushita microswitches & Tokai switches for the buttons. Japanese SNK arcade cabinets used Seimitsu components exclusively so when it was time to make an arcade joystick for their AES console, they used Seimitsu once again. The custom joystick lever looks like a cross between an LS-30 (plastic base) & an LS-32 (area surrounding actuator) although it's unconfirmed if Seimitsu actually made this part. If it's a clone then it's a very good clone.

The buttons while somewhat small nowadays (though fine for when it was released in 1990), are accurate & doesn't have too much of a deadzone. My 2 complaints (I'm being nitpicky here) are that the USB-based cable's rather short & lightweight (~2.5 - 3 pounds). I've tried a USB extension cable & can confirm it works with no lag and/or any other issues. As for the weight, I'm not too concerned because I'm not all over the place since I prefer to use arcade sticks on a table. Worst case scenario, you can always open it up & put rolls of coins at the corners but I doubt I'll do that. Also, you can use other manufactuer's (Sanwa, Seimitsu, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome reproduction! January 30, 2013
Verified Purchase
First off let me start by saying I did not buy this for use with a NEOGEO X system. I bought it for use with the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator on PC. It works perfectly for this purpose. My PC found the stick right away, and I didn't need to download any drivers.

The stick is a pleasure to use with a very satisfying click at each of the 8 directions. The stick itself feels high quality. Cracked balls are one of the most common defects you will find on original sticks for the NEOGEO AES, and apparently this is a complete 1:1 copy using the same parts. To help solve this issue, they super-glued the ball to the stick so you cannot over-tighten it and crack it.

The buttons are also faithful to the original. Those used to modern sticks may find the buttons small, but they are in a pleasing configuration and I personally found them to be a fine size, even with my basketball palming sized hands.

Again, no issues at all with MAME.

Apparently, the stick also will function connected to a PS3. I did not test the PS3 functionality yet, but will update this review when I do.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good replica of the original December 25, 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The new Neo-Geo X joystick is a faithful reproduction of the original AES joystick. The stick itself has the great "clicky" tactile feedback and the buttons are just like you're back at the arcade.

The cable on the joystick is relatively short at just five and a half feet long, but you can extend the length by using a standard USB extension cable since the joystick now uses USB connections. It's worth noting that because of this the original AES joysticks and the new Neo-Geo X joysticks are NOT interchangeable.

The joystick also has Select and Start buttons. The Start button functions the same as it does on the Neo-Geo X handheld, while the Select button is used to pause the gameplay (the same as the R1/R2 buttons do on the handheld unit).

Since there is no Menu button on the joystick you are not able to exit your game and return to the main Neo-Geo X menu from the joystick. If you want to change games you have to get up and push the Reset button on the Neo-Geo X docking station.

All in all this is a great joystick. Anybody who picks up a Neo-Geo X should also add an extra joystick to the cart so you can play the many two-player games that come preloaded on the Neo-Geo X!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice stick. Also ouya compatible. October 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
The stick is decent and works with PC and ps3 as others have noted. I just wanted to add that it works fine with ouya as we'll right out of box. I've used two of these and a Flash drive with a USB hub. I do feel it was a bit overpriced for its build quality as it feels somewhat light compared to other sticks in same price range. But none of those work with 4 different platforms......

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stick August 16, 2013
Verified Purchase
I enjoy using these Neo Geo X sticks. I can't really compare them to the original Neo Geo sticks since I never had the opportunity to use one, but these seem perfectly responsive and are fun to use. Plus, they are compatible with PC and even Android - maybe more - via the standard USB connector. My only gripe is that it is kind of lightweight and tends to move around a lot as I use it - adding some grippy rubber to the bottom helped. Overall a fun controller for $50.

Low quality product with a "extremely" high price. Cost $200. but is worth $60 at most. Not worth the price.
