MAD MAX meets STAGECOACH, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Neon City [VHS] (VHS Tape)
NEON CITY is not a great film, but it's enjoyable. Yet another one of the many post-apocalyptic films inspired by MAD MAX, this is one of the better ones, along with CIRCUITRY MAN and CHERRY 2000.
It also seems inspired by the 1930s western, STAGECOACH.
In NEON CITY, a disparate group of people in the post-apocalypse North America of A.D. 2057 buy tickets on a trailer that drives across the wastelands. Michael Ironside is a bounty hunter transporting Vanity to the Northern District's marshall. There's also a poor little rich girl, a psycho posing as a doctor, a former prostitute, a down-and-out standup comic (played by that actor who played the newscaster on WKRP IN CINCINNATTI), and a few others.
Along they way they fight off wasteland "skins" (barbarians on motorcycles), meet mutants, pass through solar-radiated areas over which the ozone layer has disappeared, pass through poisonous clouds, and have other post-apocalyptic adventures.
You've seen this stuff in many other films, but it's well done if you like the genre.

Got to say that if one man can make a movie worth watching then there's only one man, MICHAEL IRONSIDE.

A possible Future awaits the unlucky ones..., February 22, 2004
This review is from: Neon City [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is definotely one of the better post-apocalyptic movies. It shows the world after an ecological catastrophy. Ozone layer is almost gone, survivor cluster in a few cities, and vicious raiders named "Skins" rule the desert. An outlook on one possible future, mutations, government control, etc. The movie deals with people going on a "bus" to a "megapolice" called Neon City. On the way they have to deal with ruined ecology, mutants, "Skins," and each other. Fairly bloody movie for the kids, a thought-provocking flick for adults.
