The Best CD ever, period...Next to Geobreeders.,
By Tome of Tom H (Charlotte, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion III (Audio CD)
This is the very best cd ever, period. If you haven't seen or heard of Neon Genesis Evangelion I HIGHLY recommend that you do so quickly. This has the music from the beginning and the end, The battle with Sachiel and the other angels. This will surely bring a tear to your eye bringing back the memories of joy and sorrow....Ah the memories. I say this again this is the BEST music out there and one of the BEST animes as well. WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Evangelion volume three,
By Gojimatt (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion 3 (Audio CD)
This volume is perhaps my favourite, comprised of themes from later in the series many of which focus less on action and more on the emotional and dramatic elements. A number of tracks depict Shinji's inner space along with his time spent inside the Eva. This is a much more melancholic album compared to the first two, essentially depicting the Eva universe as it begins to fall apart around the main protagonists. It's a deeper, richer listen and all the better for it in my opinion.Once again the album opens with a couple of pop songs sung by the same artist who performed A cruel angel's thesis over the opening titles. Again I'm sure these songs never appeared in the series and I'm still a bit confused as to why they're included on this album. After this though we're thrown headlong into classic Eva territory with a reprise of the 'Beast II' theme, here named Normal blood, and even though it's essentially a shortened repeat from the previous volume it still packs a punch. Besides it's arguably the most iconic theme from Neon Genesis (after A cruel angel's thesis and Fly me to the moon)and was used countless times during the course of the series so I don't think any fan would begrudge it's return here. 'Harbinger of tragedy' is another familure track used a number of times (including the End of Evangelion) and is best associated with Nerv's attempts to retrieve Shinji from unit 01. Track 5 is a short exerpt from Bach's Six suites for unaccompanied cello and is acctually performed by Shinji in the episode it appears. This peice would go on to become closely associated with Evangelion, making a reappearance in 'Death and Rebirth'. Track 6 is one of my favorites, a instrumental version of 'Fly me to the moon' which plays over Misato and Kaji's reconciliation in episdoe 15 and is beautifully romantic, perfectly capturing the mood of the scene. Track 7 breaks the more sedate mood with a lively action peice which interweaves the Eva theme quite nicely. Track 8 refers back to the begining of the series, representing Shinji's anguished decision making in episode one but to me best conjures up memories of the intermission from 'Death and Rebirth'. Wonderfully melodramatic. 'In the depths of human hearts' is a moody and disquieting peice in the classic Eva mold. 'Hostility restrained' is a solo piano performance of Rei's theme and captures, even more so than the full orcestra versions heard on other albums, the fractured, tragic, disturbed nature of Rei Ayanami's personality. Track 11 lightens the tone slightly but still retains a sense of melancholy. This plays over the bar scene in episode 15 and has become known as Ritsuko's theme. Track 12 is another variation on Rei's theme and is very simular to the previous version. Track 13, another favorite of mine, is a shorter more vulnerable rendition of 'Fly me to the moon' perfectly capturing Mistato's grief after Kaji's death. Track 14 takes us into Shinji's inner space and is that weird combination of disquieting and emotional/spiritual that Shiro Sagisu does so well. 'Seperation anxiety' is another effective track depicting the flurry of thoughts and images racing through Shinji's head as he tries to come to terms with his world while trapped inside the Eva in episode 16 and is followed by the creepy and distorted 'Introjection' and simularly weird 'Depression'. Both tracks would sound more at home in a horror film but perfectly evoke Shinji's slowly fracturing mind inside the Eva. Track 18 is one of my favorite themes from the entire Eva series (films included) and I can only hope that it isn't long before it makes a reappearance in the 'rebuild' series. To me it represents an almost religious joy as Shinji comes face to face with the spirit of his mother. 'Infantile dependence, adult dependency' is my absolute favorite off this album and, after realizing it was included on this CD, was my main motivation for buying. A brilliantly momentum fuled piece that perfectly depicts Shinji's ultimate resolution inside Unit 01 at the end of episode. 20. A fantastic bit of music by Shiro Sagisu in my humble opinion. Track 20 'Mother is the first other' is a variation on track 18 and actually tops the earlier version, representing a more peaceful, contented resolution for Shinji this time. Tracks 21 and 22 are different versions of the same theme, an instrumental version of 'A cruel angel's thesis'. 'The heady feeling of freedom' is a more orchestral version while 'Good, or Don't be' is a solo piano version. Both tracks are quite beautiful and poignant , especially when you consider at least one of them (not sure which) plays over the final moments of the series. Finally the album is rounded off with 12 different versions of 'Fly me to the moon'. I really love this album. Though I loved the individual tracks I wasn't sure if it worked as an album but listening to it again it hangs together really nicely and is, without a doubt, my personal favourite of the three volumes. Highly recommended.

Very good, but...,
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion 3 (Audio CD)
Neon Gensis Evangelion Vol. III is a great album, but it's just not as good as it's prelude albums, the instrumental music is of the same quality as Vol. I and II, but the CD contains about 12 remixes of Fly Me To The Moon, which, personally I'm not that big a fan of the song.Overall, it's a good CD, worth the purchase if your a fan of the other two CD's, but I'd definately recommend the first two volumes over this one.

Fly Me to the Moon~,
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion 3 (Audio CD)
Personally, I love the music of Evangelion. This soundtrack has some of my favorite music from the series (though I prefer the movie music). The 12 versions of Fly Me to the Moon might put some people off, but since it's one of my favorite songs in the series, I found that rather a nice selling point.Though it does get old if you listen to them all in order, but CD players come with a Random function for a reason.

Have you ever listened to THE music?,

Background music tracks to Japananimation are often described as "overzestful", but they are still worth a listen. Good music, you know, sort of stirs your imagination and pulls you into a world of mediatation where you can reflect on some events you remember from a typical scene in the anime, say, where "Asuka strikes", or even a moment in your daily life which you needed/will be needing encouragement and comfort, without being self-conscious of what you're listening to. This album just does that. Although this product will pose a "?" to a listener's mind if s/he has never even seen the series, but if YOU have and are now peacefully and dillegently Evangel-ised, then this stuff simply a MUST! Another CD I can thoroughly recommend is an album called "Evangelion Vox". Available in amazon.co.jp and other online outlets chiefly in Japan. Here a rapper Malispits some traditional-style rhymes on digitally twisted Eva-BGM backtracks.

The third cd of one of the best anime soundtracks ever made,
By A Customer
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion III (Audio CD)
This cd is the third installment of one of the most popular anime series ever made . It is a very wide ranging cd with many backgroud music which reminds you ( if you've seen it) of moments in the series. The first two songs are pop but very hard to remember until you listened to it a couple of times. The backgroud music Included in this are musics of military content and marching music but very interesting to hear ( what would you expect if you want pop music get an pop cd ). Any way If you don't unterstand Japanese it is o.k there are only two songs in Japanese and the rest are just moody music with very philosofical names added to it . The rest of the cd or shall I say the secomd half of the cd is dedicated to different versions of fly me to the moon ( This will make sense if you've seen the series ) Very enjoyable and well worth it if you want something new .

Loved the series, and I am gonna have to work these soundtracks in with some future orders. Odd tidbit of fact that No one has mentioned yet... "Fly me to the Moon" is actually a re-make of an old Frank Sinatra tune, if you don't know who he is... ask your parents.
