This is the way the world ends.,

This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Vol. 5 (Paperback)
I had long been a fan of the Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime, but the manga is not a simple retelling of your favorite episodes. Events have been reordered, and entirely new threads and stories are coming to pass in the manga version of the fan favorite series. More cannot be said without spoiling the surprises that wait inside the book. The art is superb, coming from the artist who designed the look of the series itself. I can't wait to see how it will all end.

Sadamoto let's us peek a bit more into each character's mindset, and the addition of scenes that weren't in the anime version give fans (especially Rei and Asuka ones) a bit more to smile about. All in all, a good read and an exciting addition to the evangelion storyline.

Sinji is starting cope with his life, he tries to conect with his father but (I think you know what will happen). Shinji incuers Rei on how to talk with his father but she seems not to help. The kiss scene and the elevator scene at the same time? Shinji regaining his repressed memories? As I have said of the volumes before this one. Shinji is more likable than in the show. Asuka is such a tease and a flirt, without loosing her competitiveness, and abrasiveness. I like her better in the manga too. Misato is more or less the same Misato, but Kaji is more deep and involved. Gendo Ikari can always through you a curve ball by saying anything at all to Shinji Ikari. But I was kinda shocked by what Gendo has to say. In the one scene where Shinji and Gendo have an almost pleasant conversation in the anime, Gendo drops a bomb on Shinji in the manga. I'm left thinking "Is Gendo depressed, or just completely detached?

The recreation of King Oedipus story,

A son who tries hard to get along with his father, two men struggling for their mother/wife attention in a totally new way. Should be read by anyone who wants to discover the true essence of the human being. What a shame Viz does not publish the color pages, but it is worth anyway.
