Stick to the age rating when purchasing-my 8 year old was intimidated by level 3 and it's intensity. Graphics are excellent-would recommend for older Neopet enthusiasts.

The graphics have a good clean look to them and the worlds are fun to explore around and see whats around ever corner. I would say its the first game of this type that I have played. Its like exploring the kind of world any child would want to live in with caves, mountians, forests, castles and sewers. We havent beaat it yet but the two of us have had great fun so far.

My son and I are having a really good time playing this game. It's really really long, and not too hard or frustrating so my 7 year old can have fun with it! I like the fact that it encourages reading skills, I also like the fact that good guys are good, and bad guys are bad! it reinforces right from wrong!

The graphics are pretty and the music is great! In an age where games are getting increasingly more and more violent and and geared for teenage boys, it is a refreshing change to play a game that is really fun for kids. I have to admit I am having fun playing it too! My son likes to solve the puzzles and do the quests, and he likes me to help him with the fighting in the dungeon areas, so we switch off!

I also like the fact that the game has a strong girl character, that seems to be pretty rare in games now days (since most games are designed for teenage boys) and I think that will make this game appealing to girls as well as boys.

Over all this game is good wholesome family entertainment that I would recommend for anyone who likes to play games with their kids!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Awesomest Faerie Tale, December 8, 2005
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I bought the darkest faerie about two or three days after it was released and my mother and I are still playing it. The graphics are so cool. The controls on PS2 are easy to learn and get familiar with.

You start out with one character, Tormund, and later on in Act 2 you play Roberta, but the best part is when they get together in Act 3. There are so many items you can gain through treasures and quests.

I find the traveling from one place to another somewhat tedious, but I guess it's better than zapping from one place instantly. It gives you a more real time sort of feeling, having to roam a large mapped area, and trying to stay oriented with what direction you are headed can be challenging.

The petpets are useful when kept fed. I particularly liked the cute little Noil's. But I think the Turmac is the most useful, as it increases both health and magic, and boosts attack and defense. It is just difficult to keep it fed, as it likes to run around a lot.

The sword fighting in the game is not just hack and slash. There are different swings depending on the speed of button pressing, or rotating of the joystick. The magic wand is good for long range attacks. Magic is a key to defeating types of monsters, using motes that vary your attacks. One astounding game. Is good for ages 10 and up.

So far there is no player's guide for it (There is a map inside the game package), but there are helpful people on the message boards at [...] who can answer any questions you might have. I found that very useful to overcome puzzles that eventually stumped me. It's a fun game, and yes I'd give it an educational rating for its map reading and puzzle solving skills. It's about as durable as any CD is and should be taken care of. I won't give it a 5, but more of a 4.5, something rather close.

My son saw this game advertised on Nickelodeon and we purchased it for his 11th birthday. He just finished the game yesterday and loved every minute of it! I would highly recommend it as a parent who is tired of buying expensive games just to have them played for a couple of hours and stuck back on the shelf. He couldn't wait to get to his "game time" every day to play this game. The graphics are wonderful, the morals are great for a game these days, and we all enjoyed watching him play and the little "movies" played in between quests. Definately not a waste of money!

A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Neopets: The Darkest Faerie (Video Game)
I've been playing Neopets: The Darkest Faerie and I love it! I'm twelve years old, and there's only so many games that my parents will let me play until I'm older - and this one is EASILY the funnest I've played all year! Usually, when my ten year old sister and her friends like a game, I won't even pay attention to it --- but Neopets is an easy acception to that rule. The characters are cool and there's tons of awesome levels to play! Even if you mess up on a level, you can accidentally discover cool hidden areas and happen upon different quests.

3.0 out of 5 stars Neopets, Petpets, and Neggs Gallore!!, January 9, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Neopets: The Darkest Faerie (Video Game)
You start off playing as a Lupe named Tormund who really wants to be a knight of the realm one day. His dad sends him off to Meridell to deliver a package to the knights recuitment center. He takes the package and when he gets to Meridell his dream comes true, right after he gets his parents permission of course. =) Hey even Neopets need their parents permission sometimes.

The second character you play is a Acara named Roberta. Shes the niece to the king of Brightsvale. She is supposed to be some kind of diplomat but she really wants to learn magic. You don't play as Roberta quite as long as you do Tormund. After a while the two heros team up. Thats when it really gets fun.

While wandering around the world of Neopets sometimes you'll see this really adorable little creatures called Petpets. If you have some extra food give some to the Petpets to eat and they will follow your hero(s) around for awhile. Not all Petpets will though. The Turtum won't. The Turtum Petpet is basically just good for reaching high places. The Petpets that will follow you around however can do different things for Tor and Roberta. They can strengthen them, make their defense better, recover their health over a given period of time, or even recover their magic over a given period of time.

Some of the other neopets you will meet in the world of Neopets will ask you to do favors for them. Like find them certain items, or give things to others for them. If you complete the tasks they ask of you they will give you neopoints, neggs, or other items in return.

Also while wandering around you will sometimes come across treasure maps. You should collect these if you can. They lead to buried treasure chests you can only finally find using a map. Some treasure chests contain neopoints, neggs, potions, or motes even. =) Some treasure chests you will see have these glitter looking crystals on them. You will need to equip your weapon with a mote of the same element type as the element of the treasure chest then hit the chest with your weapon to open it.

I enjoyed this game alot but it did let me down some because for some reason whenever I would turn the camera to see better a line would scroll down the screen some times but it wasn't enough to notice. =) It also let me down a little because it seemed to freeze up once or twice but that might be because I had been playing it for like four hours non-stop. =) Other then that I would reccmond this game for people who have little children who want something they can enjoy and also for all those people who are still a kid at heart. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, December 29, 2006
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Neopets: The Darkest Faerie (Video Game)
I am a huge neopets fan, although i have only been playing neopets online for about one year. I have heard about this game before i got it, because i just got a ps2 for christmas 5 days ago. So, i havent been playing for long, but this game is GREAT! I am a person who likes long adventure sagas with an unlikely hero in them, so if you are like me GET THIS GAME! It is only a 1 player game, but it still very fun! Heres a tip if you buy this game: sometimes the instructions don't tell you what to do, and you feel like quiting. But, just try everwhere for an answer,(look everywhere in what ever town you're in, and go in all buildings,) and i promise you'll get it. This game would be kinda hard for kids under 8, because fighting is hard to control.

HUGE HINT: Whenever you see patches of plants like grass, or small bunches of leaves, hit them with your sword and you get neopoints, or an item like strong health items, or sometimes Neggs! If you do this the game gets A LOT easier and way more fun! Also, if you kill the grass on tors farm (which gives you money) so you have 500 neopoints, you can buy a metal sword once in Meridell which gives you a HUGE advantage in shadowglen woods, and you won't survive in Illusens Glade without one!

Hope this helped!
