Not so well-made, January 29, 2009
I bought a pair of NEOS Adventurer overshoes to replace a pair that I have been using for ten or twelve years, believe it or not. The old pair held up great after many days of use every year, but the sole on one overshoe finally separated from the upper.
Found the Adventurer again online, it looked identical to what I'd had and been happy with, and there was nothing in the description that sounded different, so I ordered a pair.
Found on arrival that the new model of this knee-high boot has just Velcro to hold the overshoe closed from just above the toe right up to the knee. The old ones had a zipper which was then covered by a Velcro'd flap. The new ones just have the flap.
The inner thin plastic "sleeve" in the overshoe is almost knee high in the new ones, as opposed to calf high in the old, and would supply some moisture protection to feet and legs. However, if water or snow get into the overshoe, as seems likely when the whole front is held together only by Velcro, at best you're going to have a pocket of cold water suspended over your instep on the outside surface of the sleeve. (It's kind of hard to describe how these boots are put together.)
I noticed with my old pair that after a few years tiny pieces of lint and thread got caught in the Velcro, which then adhered to itself less well, so that the zipper was more and more necessary as time went on. I wasn't expecting that the new pair would necessarily last as long as the old pair, but I doubt the new ones will be useable for longer than two or three years at most, which makes their initial cost pretty high for a pair of overshoes.
This lack of a zipper in no way improves the product, so I'm thinking it's a cost-cutting measure on the part of the manufacturer, who doesn't mention the change on their website. I loved my old pair of Adventurers, and am very disappointed; will see if I can find something comparable made by a different company, and return these.

Great overshoe!, December 4, 2010
This review is from: Neos Adventurer Winter Overshoes - Black (Apparel)
I'm a grad student, so I bought these boots for walking around campus and town when it's snowy. My mom is a letter carrier, and she swears by her NEOS overshoes for walking through the snow all day.
The calf height (or nearly knee height, for me, because I'm 5'2") is great - my pants are completely dry! It's very easy to slip these boots on over any shoes, and I didn't even have to fuss with tucking my jeans in because the tops of the boots open wide. Adjustment is easy - just lift up the end of the ankle strap, cinch it down, and stick it back down to the boot with velcro. If the top is too loose - which is not a problem for me, with my cyclist-calves - there is also a string around the top that can be cinched tighter. It's easy to store the boots when you're done by rolling the tops down and snapping them down under the ankle straps.
If I had any complaint, it would be a minor one: The bag that comes with the boots fits them very tightly, which somewhat negates their no-fuss sensibility. I ended up finding a bigger bag from another pair of boots that I had to store them in, so I can just drop them in the bag and go.
