Current Nepalese cooking possible with American ingrediants.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nepal Cookbook (Paperback)
I like this book especially for the straight-forward simplicity of the recipes and, especially, for the great tasting food.It is good for both vegetarians and omnivores! Several cooks contributed so the cook gets a variety of styles, probably from different parts of the american Nepalese society.

I actually bought this book in Nepal after serving for 2 yrs there as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I knew I'd get a hankering for some home cooked Nepali specialties once I got home. I haven't made the majority of the recipes in it, but it was certainly worth the cost of the book for the ones I have made, especially the spicy fried pork cubes which I make quite often. Kasto meetho lagyo!

Authentic Nepali Cooking,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nepal Cookbook (Paperback)
My Nepali friend says the book does good representation of Nepali cooking although there were a few recipes she couldn't recognize. There are traditional Nepali dishes along with Indian and British-influenced ones (e.g. chop). This is not for people who care about pretty pictures, but for people like me who would rather have MORE RECIPES.

Authentic, yet accessible.,

I bought this book while I was in Nepal, knowing that I would miss the food when I come back to the States. It seems that the recipes are for the most part pretty authentic, similar to dished that I had in Nepal (momo's, various dal dishes, various veggie curries, roti). The ingredients are usually available in Indian grocery stores here, and
if an ingredient is hard to find, the book provides alternatives. Like other reviewers have noted, this book doesn't have pretty pictures or beautiful cover. So, if you are looking for eye-candy, I don't recommend it. But if you are looking for good, accessible recipes on a rarely-written-about-in-the-English-language cuisine, I recommend this little cookbook!

This book was a must after travelling in the Himalayas - makes it very easy to make Nepal's classic dishes.

This is an excellent cookbook for people who want to use new techniques and recipes in their kitchen. Nepali food offers an interesting array of spice combinations and food preparation, including sun-drying and curing. The Pan-Fried Asparagus and Potatoes is an excellent vegetarian dish, as is the Sun-Dried Lentil and Vegetable Balls with Potatoes. The Marinated Lamb Kebobs are great for grilling; try the Gundruk soup if your culinary spirit is bold and borderless. This book is well worth its modest price tag, and I recommend it to my friends who like Indian and Asian cuisine.

Pictures are not needed to improve this cookbook!,

I'm really writing this review in response to the previous. Nepali cooking is not about PRESENTATION---it is about TASTE! Nepali cooking, unlike so much American cuisine, sometimes looks unappealing until one takes their first bite, then wow!! If you really need you food to look attractive and 'just like the pictures' then this is not for you, stick with box mixes and Betty Crocker. If you are looking to make something different and special, then this edition is a dream! I cannot say enough good things about this book.

Easy to cook Nepali food,
By Gigi Ginger (Texas Somewhere) - See all my reviews

Nepali food is wonderfully simple. But, it is easier for me since I watched my Nepalese di-di (sister) cooking for three years. Nepalis cook nearly everything in sunflower oil. Their food is so delicious and the recipes in this book have really helped me cook their food now that I'm back in the States. Having an Indian grocery nearby is great, too!

The product was exactly as stated in the description. It was in excellent condition. It only had like library stickers on it. We love it and it helped the girl scouts pick a recipe for Thinking Day for our country of choice Nepal. Item was sent fast and received quickly. Thanks

I thought this cookbook was quite good. It is the only one I have found as it is difficult to get anything about Nepalese cooking... so I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth BUT... I do wish it had a better format especially some pictures.
