If you enjoy VNV Nation you will surely enjoy this artists work. The music tends to flow together as you listen to the cd although you will notice that some of the songs are very small and without lyrics making you wonder if you bought a cd with six songs on it. Past this point the six songs that are on this CD are very good and would recommend it to anyone. Note if your looking for a CD that is all good.. I probably couldn't recommend this to you personally.

If you are a fan of VNV Nation, you will love Pride And Fall,

With so many of the existing darkwave/EBM artists making the transition into synthpop as of lately, it's relieving to see a new band like Pride And Fall arise to carry the flame. Pride And Fall's debut album, Nephesh, is a truimphant return to the powerful and emotional electronic music industrial/ebm fans have been clamoring for...high bpm, melodic, cerebral vocals, and soothing all at the same time. I rank Nephesh right up there with VNV Nation's Praise The Fallen/Empires albums (which were widely considered to be some of the best the genre ever produced). Every song on here has massive potential as a club hit, but my favorites would have to be Inside, Paragon, December, and Construct. Out of the 10 tracks there are really only about 6 actual full songs (the rest are 1-2 minute bridge tracks), but the songs that are on there are so good it doesn't seem to matter. I need not say another word, if you are into any form of electronic music...buy this album. You will not be disappointed.

When i think of Pride and Fall, i think of a talented band that has been given the short end of the stick. Really, listen to the album and tell me they are just another rip-off of VNV Nation. Its ugly and it doesn't work for me, not with Tom shear working on the album as well. Assemblage 23 is not VNV and yet he does work helping these people out, making what I think is one of the mor ememorable albums to come out in the middle 2000s. Still, people hear something and they want to draw comparisons, not really going further and asking "what does that mean?" I mean, I see people reviewing VNV at a high rate and then hitting this band hard, and it makes me wonder why a band that sounds just like this alcclaimed band is hit below the audio belt?
Nothing makes sense here. Of all the albums that Pride and Fall put out, Nephesh is my favorite. It has a sad sound that flows through it like a river, making the sounds hurt and the songs feel like each one is going to collapse in on itself. There is so much beauty in that, too, making the world inside a pair of headphones seem like they conceal a river that is about to rupture. Its so beautiful. The other great thing about the album is that it works as a whole and it makes it really difficult to single out one song. That means that the whole work has some sway over the mental regions of the mind, making it tastes like perfection when it is listened to. and listen to it I must - I feel that I need it when I listen to one song and, before long, I have consumed the whole thing. That says so much about the album. the only thing I do not like here is the hidden track which is located WAYYY in the back of the album. I personally want to be able to simply jump up and go to it, but doing that requires me to play with my I-Pod settings, to make a disc that makes the rain fall beautifully, or to endure. considering how many times i have forgotten about the track, I simply endure. If you have yet to check out the album, do so. also, take no preconceptions with you and, if you do, rememeber what bands you like. This should help you and should make the taste meaningful. Me - i love this and then some. i hope you do, too.

Great album... Not a VNV Rip-off either,

Whoever said that this album was a VNV Nation Rip-off because the name Pride and Fall ALMOST sounds like Praise the Fallen is a complete idiot. Sorry, pal, but that's a poor excuse. Pride and Fall have a very different, darker sound. The music is strong, and although the album may have a few "filler" tracks, they're all good, and worth the money.

Behind the times,

Nothing really memerable here. Mediocre musicianship at best. The chord progressions are just basic piano no no's and even the programming is pretty bland. Sequences just start and stop out of thin air. The drums are the same heard on albums dateing back to the late 80's and the beats are right off any groove boxes presets. It wouldnt hurt if this band learned something about music theory or took even one or two lessons on any instrument. The lyrics are bland and uninspiring. Though theres some promise here, its just too little to late. This genre is on to the next level and Pride and Fall is nothing you havnt heard before. This is just way to mediocre. And a little liner note, having worked with a few companies I happen to know there was a huge amount of pressure to release a VNV Nation like group for financial reasons. Not to say this is a rip off in anyway, it doesnt even come close.

Uhh...,
By Roger (Albany, NY) - See all my reviews

Is it a coincidence that the name "Pride and Fall" sounds similar to the VNV Nation album title "Praise the Fallen"? This is one of the worst rip-off bands I have heard thus far in the EBM scene. While most bands in this scene at least attempt to be subtle about their influences, this album is a near cover-version attempt at cashing in on the success of labelmates VNV Nation. And even there they fail... the production and mixing is extremely uneven, the vocals, although clearly trying to mimick Ronan Harris are even weaker that that marginal icon's, and the songs are completely forgettable... only "Construct" stands out, and by the time the ho-hum chorus kicks in, even that faulters. Further, when one notices that there are only 7 actual full length songs and that the rest are throwaway 'intro' type tracks, the album becomes even less desirable.
