What can I say about these super producers that have done just about everybody in the business thats anybody right now. They have come a long way and with this new one?...they show you just why everyone wants to work with them. Musically the beats are crazy and "out of space" as we already know the neptunes are known for. Lyrically some songs are on fire and others are just average but overall each song has something special about it. Its a good mix of Rock, rap, Hip-Hop and R+B. Whats good here?:

*Light you A** on fire -- The title speaks for itsself - hot beat
*It wasent Us
*Frontin
*Good Girl
*It blows my mind
*Loser
*Hot Damn
*Put Em Up
*Popular Thug

Overall they gave you just what the Neptunes are known for on this....the beats. So anyone expecting a deep philisophical album should look elsewhere. This is something for the system...music to enjoy(sometimes its not about being that deep). The Dvd is also a nice extra that has videos and a behind the scenes look at thier daily life. Overall its everything you would expect from a neptunes cd. If more of the songs had better lyrics I would rate this higher but for the beats alone its good. Fans and non-fans should check it out.

Get It!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love In Search Of..., September 1, 2004
I love this album. There are a couple tracks that are average, but over all it is a great sound with a little of something for everyone. If you liked In Seach Of, you'd love this one. Personally, I didn't care for Fly or Die quite as much. There is a definate rock influence on this album and as a lot of people have said, there are great beats. Don't read too much into it and it will be a fun one for the collection.

If you are looking for a hard core rap album or can't stand the Pharrell falsetto, this isn't for you.

Anyone who says this album is wack is not wrong or right. This album is intended for all types of music listeners because there are rock, punk, and rap songs on the album.
This album also contains a bonus DVD with interviews and a clip of the Clipse in a gun alley. A good aspect of this album is its variety. A variety of all different types of music which makes it a pretty decent album. The second good thing about this album is there are a lot of appearances on this album such as Ludacris, Clipse, Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, Jay-Z, Nas, Nelly, NORE, Kelis, Busta Rhymes, Ol' Dirty Bastard.
The Neptune's have gained enough credibility in the music industry to be on of those producers who drop an album and people just rush out to the stores to buy it just for the beats. That's part of the reason why I purchase this album. Few of my favorites are "Frontin'" feat, Jay-Z, "Light yo Ass on Fire", "Hot Damn,","It wasn't us," and ESPECIALLY "It blows my mind" and "Put em' up".
Overall this CD is not bad. The Neptune's could have done better no lie. If only they put more time and the same amount effort into this CD done on their previous work, then it would been phenomenal. Instead they give us maybe less than a dozen great tracks, a few good ones, and some so-so songs that shouldn't belong on an album in the first place.
This CD is something to add to your collection and to say that you own it but like I said If you are a fan of any type of music then this album is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hip-Hop montage for all, April 25, 2005
By
B. Tru (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
The Neptunes capture some of their best work on one album, full of chart-topping hip-hop artists and absolutely irresistible beats. From the 26-second blazing intro to the hypnotic closer, "Popular Thug", effortlessly sung by Kelis, the album bumps and jumps... and everything in between. If you love good hip-hop production and great music altogether, you will surely enjoy this album.

The infectious, club-ready "Frontin'", Pharrell's phenomenal solo single featuring Jay-Z, clearly shines on the album, along with Busta Rhymes' trance-zapped "Light Your A** On Fire" and Nelly's soulful and beat-bumpin' "If". With little filler, virtually every song on here is a keeper... Other must-listen tracks are Ludacris' whistling "It Wasn't Us", Vanessa Marquez' dazzling late-80s-reminscent "Good Girl" and Snoop Dogg's mellow (yet lifting) "It Blows My Mind".

2.0 out of 5 stars Clones: An Ironic Truth? (**1/2), November 10, 2005
By
Jude Smith (Brisbane, QLD Australia) - See all my reviews
I don't think there's much of a point discussing the careers of Pharrell Williams & Chad Hugo as pretty much everything has been said that needs to be said (And mostly by 17 year old girls at that) however there is no denying their production has been strong on the scene of both the Hop and Pop charts for quite a while and their N.E.R.D albums have given them the right to claim both commercial success and a cult following in both Hip Hop and Rock scenes.

Clones as an album tries to capitalise on all of this by being used to both give a platform for their own labels talent such as Clipse and show off their phonebook with guest such as Busta, Nelly, NaS, and of course Jay-Z. I think most people weren't that surprised that they had managed to get the two Mc's with one of at the time (although slowly dieing) biggest above ground beefs on the same album, as I don't think anyone believed that that hasn't been anything but a marketing ploy for both parties for a long time. (Note: These two parties recently performed on Jay-Z's I declare War comeback show absolving any lasting remnants of rumours that there was still beef).

As it stands the album seems like a bit of mess particularly because about midway they start to trek off the hard line high production value sounds into rockier territory for a fleeting moment and it doesn't really work. The weakest thing with a Neptunes song is usually the artist they work with and much of the time it's the same here on Clones, which ironically is sometimes what it feels like when listening to Nelly sing about the token `would you love me if I didn't have bag loads of cash' song. Woe is me Nelly. Or Blaze of Glory with Clipse and co telling us how much they clap (Yawn). Indeed it does seem at times that The Neptunes are handing out "Styles like Ice Cream Cones" to quote Pharrell on Hot Damn, and that isn't a good thing. The album does however bring some jams that are undeniably catchy such as Popular Thug or the infamous Frontin' even the smoked out it Blows My Mind brings something to the table even though once again the content is completely conceited.

When it comes to the crunch tho it seems The Neptunes really are presenting nothing but clones.

2.0 out of 5 stars Acceptable, but overall disappointing..., November 12, 2003
By
markus king "markus" (Winston-Salem, NC United States) - See all my reviews
I've admired The Neptunes for coming up with incredible productions- infectious rhythms, killer bridges, etc.

However, THE CLONES is far from the masterpiece i was hoping it would have been. Don't get me wrong- the production, for the most part, is still topnotch, but seems to be defeated by a mass of mediocre songs, uninspired writing, etc.

In addition, I know Pharrell and Chad's hallmark has never been clean or classy lyrics (anyone who bought the first CD knows that), but i suppose i hoped stardom would bring a little dignity. No such luck, as displayed on the leadoff single "Frontin'", a good production that almost masks the off-kilter songwriting, and the incredibly tired line "...i was gon' tear your a** up..." (which, sung in Pharrell's wobbly falsetto, sounds ridiculous)--I mean, is that supposed to sweep a girl off her feet?

Ultimately, the CD serves as notice that, as songwriters, the boys seem to be running out of ideas. Final case in point: "Good Girl", by Vanessa Marquez. Again, excellent production right out of the Cherelle/Karyn White days in the 80's, and again, a killer bridge. But check out the lyrics, and its uncomfortably reminiscent of their recent collab with Toni Braxton, "Hit the Freeway" (hell, both songs have bridges that say either 'how could you blow it?' or 'you had to go and blow it')...

Overall, THE CLONES has more weaknesses than strengths...and while the production is very important, the boys won't have much to stand on if their efforts feature little else of merit...and that includes Pharrell's falsetto...

4.0 out of 5 stars As a Neptunes fan i say Solid Effort., July 29, 2005
I have liked the neptunes since 1999 and i have related with their music and i can't explain it but i have been hooked to their music.

The clones Album is a good showcase of talent as you have Busta rhymes,Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Kelis, Ludacris, N.O.R.E., clipse, Dirt mc girt(R.I.P) N.E.R.D and Star trak label showcases like High speed Scene and Vanessa Marquez.

You get an Array of Neptunes beats as you get Some Club-bangers like "put em up" and "it wasnt us". You get thug songs like "hot damn", "Hot" and "blaze of glory".Songs for women like "good girl" and "popular thug".And songs to get women like "frontin" and "If".
Like Rock? you get 3 songs "halfsteering" from Spymob, "F and spend" from Star Trak Label mate High speed scene and "Loser" from N.E.R.D featuring Clipse.

If you like N.E.R.D or the neptunes this is a cd for you, if your new to the neptunes sound this is also a good cd to see how their beats work. Plus if you want to see how the neptunes work with well-established artists, this is for you!

Not as good As their N.E.R.D cd's but this cd makes for a good listening time especially loud in your car.

5.0 out of 5 stars VA is for hustlers!!, September 12, 2003

The Neptunes are from my hometown, Virginia Beach, and they are representin! Though I like the N*E*R*D album a little better (because it is not a compilation, but actually Chad and Pharrell themselves), this cd is still dope. The rock music in the middle of the tracks throw off the vibe a bit (but I'm feelin "f*ck and spend" by the high speed chase scene, though =). The best tracks on the CD are Good Girl (r&b/pop joint), Loser (N*E*R*D)... well, actually all the tracks are good! In other words, GET THIS CD!!
