In my opinion this wasn't a fluke defect on just my purchase.

It is hard for younger kids to load and pull the part you have to slide back to get it ready to fire.

The little gun is fun, but when you purchase it together and only 1/2 works, not very impressed.

It isn't long after you purchase a Nerf blaster for your children that you realize they need targets or, rather, the whole world to them begins to look like a target.

To fill this need, Nerf introduced its Tech Target Set complete with sound effects and electronic scoring. The scoreboard features three games that sound more exciting ("Missile Defense" and "Range Simulator") than they play. You will need to turn up the volume on our video to hear the sound effects, which is disappointing because the Nerf scoreboard requires three AA batteries.

This set comes with a Reflex IX-1 blaster (a small pistol) and three sonic micro darts. I recommend an upgrade to a large blaster. For added fun, we placed the board at the end of the hallway and turned out the lights. My sons mounted mini-flashlights to their Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 Dart Blasters, which features a 35-dart magazine.

In summary, the Nerf Tech Target Set underwhelms. Personally, I don't like the set because it requires three AA batteries and delivers little electronic excitement. It literally needs more bells and whistles. My sons use it but augment their shooting gallery with action figures and Lego creations (a nod to the power of imagination).

Rating: Two stars.

My kids LOVE the nerf guns so when I saw this I thought it would be perfect for them to have something to shoot at. The idea is good. I think it would be better if it was a little larger but I guess it just makes it more challenging this way.
The actual target is ok but you either have to hang it on the wall or prop it against a wall or something. I think it would be better if it had stand so it didn't have to lean against a wall. The bullets come out hard and bounce so you don't want to stand too close and want to keep an eye on where they land. It is hard for younger kids to load and pull the part you have to slide back to get it ready to fire. My kids enjoy it but find it a little frustrting to load. I also wish that it had a way to store the bullets on it for when not in use.

not bad, you have to get pretty close for the darts to set it off.
Good for a rainy day of playing in the basement

Came in the mail. Wrapped it for Christmas. When my daughter opened it we immediately put batteries in it. It turned on but none of the functions work. We noticed how poorly constructed it was. The buttons didn't work so you couldn't switch the functions. Buy this item at wal-mart toys-r-us so if you have this problem you can easily return exchange. Plus if it broke so easily you might want to go with another choice. You should also know there isn'y an option for zero stars...I would of picked that since she was never able to use it.

I bought this for my 4 and a half year old and he was so excited. But he can't cock the gun without our help. His 6 year old friend an just barely do it when pushing it down on a bench. Probably better for an older child. He has lots of fun when we help him.

bought it for my 5 yr old. he loves his Nerf guns, but not really impressed with this one.
theres no support. so once a dart hits the board, it tips over. If you lean it against the wall, the darts start flying all over the place. Wish they had a better support and a sticky surface to the darts dont fly.
Another thing, the guns are not too fun. a 5yr old cant reload it on his own.
Thanks for including the protective glasses.

Bought this for the kids for Christmas. I think in 1 year, its been played with 1 time. The bullets don't set off the sounds. Not sensative enough.
