This review is from: Nerf N-Force Warlock Axe - Yellow (Toy)
Earlier this month someone commented on my review of the Nerf Marauder longsword that they had seen this axe in stores. I headed out the next day and there it was. Since the Thunderfury, Shadowfury and the Maraduer were all top notch, I bought the axe without hesitation.
First I wanted to point something out. "Warlock" is a terrible name for this item. If you google "Nerf Warlock" it you are going to come up with about 10,000 World of Warcraft posts before you find this axe. Secondly, a "Warlock" is basically your male witch, and we all know spell casters are never portrayed as weilding big heavy axes, it's all robes and sorcery, right?
But anyway about the axe... The warlock currently is only available in yellow. Despite not really liking the color, I can see why Hasbro went with this....a darker color would have made it look awfully real. I think there could be problems if someone saw kids chasing after each other with Nerf axes that looked like real ones, swinging them and knocking each other down. This weapon is 30 inches long (6 inches shorter than the marauder) and only weighs a hair over a pound so you can really swing it around with no problem. The handle is about as long as the handle on the marauder, which gives plenty of room for a full grown adult to grasp it. The handle is also ribbed, so you can curl your fingers in each groove to improve your grip. The head of the axe has foam looking "screws" that are meant to make it look like that is where the blade was attached to the handle. I think this is the kind of attention to detail that really sets Nerf apart from other, similar companies.
Like everything in the N-Force line, it is completely made out of the Nerf foam. The real interesting part of this axe though is the "blade". It's made out of Nerf foam but it almost feels like really squishy rubber. Of all the N-force weapons this one definitely hurts the least when hit. In fact I pretty much let my kids wail on me as hard as they can with it because whatever material is used for the blade of this axe is ingenious and it barely feels like you're even being hit. Both of my children, 5 and 2 1/2 can easily swing it around either by using one hand or two.
Overall I think this is a fantastic toy/prop axe. When I first got it I was honestly disappointed but only because I had envisioned something different if Nerf made a battle axe. However I really came to appreciate the design and the squishy-ness of the axe blade. I was hoping for something a little more massive and heavy but also need to realize this is intended for kids and that a wider axe might have balance and durability issues on the blade. With this axe, our "battles" no longer consist of just knights and Jedi's. Now dad can be the big, lumbering frost giant with the slow but powerful two-handed axe. My kids love it, I love it and if you are a fan of the N-force line you will love it as well.

I stumbled upon the N-force line of weapons while looking for Nerf darts for our "blasters" (we're Star Wars nerds, my kids and I). I got a variety of weapons thinking we'd swap out, but it worked out that my eight year old son loves the Shadow Fury, my 11 year old daughter (who is blind) loves the Marauder (the length advantage helps keep us at bay), and I (a 35 year old kid) use the Warlock.
My son calls his a Vibroblade, my daughter calls hers a Togorian Scimitar, and I call mine a Vibroaxe (look 'em up on Wookieepedia), and we have beaten each other mercilessly since we got them yesterday.
The Warlock is an amazing "weapon", well-balanced and fun to use. Also the fact that the blades are made entirely of Nerf foam means that that out of the three weapons we have, this one hurts the least when you get whacked with it (the Marauder is the most painful, but still not bad).
Best toys ever!

My son and I love this Nerf Axe! I'm not going to lie some of my 30 plus year old friends like it more than he does. Great toy for kids of ALL ages
