My kids also have this set as well as the Firefly, Maverick, Recon, Night-Finder, and a few others from another manufacturer. Overall, this is a very good value. We tested the load-fire-reload rate of all our guns, and these shoot just as far, and are the fastest within one minute. Their other Nerf guns have rapid fire up to 8 darts, but the reload time takes much longer. These Strikefire guns can only shoot one dart at a time, but it can shoot all the different types of darts, while the guns that use clips can only shoot 1 type. The kids like the Suction cup and Whisler tip darts the most. The vest works, but the kids don't use them. Instead, they prefer to use the glasses and fire darts at each other, esp. the head. We tried the "shoot only under the neck" rule, but that was impossible to enforce. The foam darts seem very safe, as long as they wear their glasses (which is an absolute requirement if they want to play with the nerf guns.) Their favorite battle is to use barriers in our large family/rec room, and to shoot at each other across the room. Playing indoors makes it a lot easier to find the darts during and after the battle. Outdoor battles can be fun also, but more difficult to hit each other, and a lot harder to find all the darts. Buy extra darts to have longer battles. I think we have almost 200 darts, but still run out during a battle before we're ready to quit. Overall, very good play value. Just don't forget the glasses - it's very easy to get hit in the eye and never fun whenever someone gets hurt during a game.

My 10-year old son received this Nerf set for Christmas. It was a huge hit. I would definitely recommend it. In the cold weather, it is too easy to just play video games indoors...this toy really keeps him/his friends active and exercising (whether they realize it or not!) outside. He has played with it in the house too and doesn't hurt anything...just takes longer sometimes to find the nerf darts. It is very cool, very fun, good for all ages.

I bought this at a rediculously low price from Amazon, so I'm very happy with it. You get 2 guns, 2 vests, and a 12 darts (6 per person). The gun is really made for smaller hands, which makes this a perfect first nerf gun set for your kids. The guns are amazingly light, and cocking the gun was relatively easy even for small hands.
Although the vests have adjustable neck and waist velcro ties, they still won't fit most adults, and will hang loosely around the smaller kids (like my 6 year old daughter). Definitely recommended for the smaller kids, adults may wish to get the bigger Nerf dart tag set (see Hasbro Nerf Dart Tag - 2 Player Set). Now, if you're lucky like me and have 2 adults and 2 kids in the family, get one of each of the sets, and you can have fun pairing off one adult and kid with the other, since both sets each come with one red and one blue vest, and one red and blue gun!

We bought my son 4 of these (4 of the guns) for his birthday. One of the four broke that night. Another broke two days later. I wasn't there when the first one broke so I assumed the kids were just too rough with it, but I actually broke the second one myself and I was not doing anything beyond normal use at the time. The problem is as another reviewer described. There is a metal trigger pin that breaks loose from the plastic housing. Kudos for Hasbro for using the metal pin, but that seems to have just passed along the problem to the next weak point. I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone buy these. Based on my experience, they will break sooner rather than later. Why bother.

We bought this set for our 7-year-old son for Christmas. The kids and my husband were playing with it in the living room. After about 30 minutes, one of the guns quit working. They were not being rough with them, and my husband was actually using the one that broke.
We returned it and got a new one, along with a pack of extra darts, since it was quite fun. My husband and son were playing with them somewhat lightly, both sitting down. Again, the one my husband was using stopped working, and you could hear the rattle of a broken piece inside. It's not my husband. I saw him using it, and he was being much kinder to it than you would expect kids to be, and this is made for kids. Perhaps they used to make these well, but maybe they've started using cheaper plastic now. We will not be exchanging it for another set again, which is a shame, because it was so much fun.

I got this for Christmas and it is awesome! The gun is small so you can bring it right up to the enemy, in this case my brothers, and they don't know you have a gun until to late. The only problem is that after about a year the spring that fires the bullet starts getting weaker. Also, you can get this set at Walmart, toys r us or any other store that carries this item and it is only 20 dollars. I would deffinitely recomend it, especially for bigger families.

THE FOLLOWING NOTE IS VERY IMPORTANT: when using this gun, load it with the NEWER AND SHORTER versions of the Nerf velcro darts, which they sell in a the refill packs and are NOT included with these guns. The use of these darts will greatly increase the power.
If you followed the instructions listed above, good for you. Now this cheap little dart gun will work for real. It has great accuracy, its relatively silent, and has an UNBELIEVABLE range. Best of all, it is very easy to use and is great for beginners... and veterans, too! Though you might say, "but these guns are way to slow and small to be used in a real battle." Yes, they are much smaller and slower than, say, the Nerf Recon. But then again, these little guys never, ever jam. They never get pooped out. And believe it or not- these dart tag guns, if used properly, have a twice as better range, accuracy, and lifespan than the Vulcan, Recon, Longshot, Deploy, or Stampede. So honestly, these simple dart tag guns are good for just about any battle situation. Be it against siblings, friends, or just a plain old target, these guns get the job done.

having protective glasses are great.
It hard to reload the darts for a 5yr old kid. if you are buying it for a 7yr old, its a fun toy. |
