5.0 out of 5 stars Great product - recommended!
My wife kept bugging me to backup all our family photographs, videos and emails. A friend highly recommended the new Nero software, so I bought it

I was skeptical about it, but after the short install I was overwhelmed by the feature set - yet easy to use.

Save your money, this is utterly worthless.

Why is all backup software garbage? Nero's attempt is a real stinker too. We're greeted with wonderful cryptic error messages at every turn. "Server Busy, Action can't be completed because the server is busy." They give you two choices [Switch to...] which pops up the start menu and [Retry] which does nothing. If you you're the patient type after about 5 minutes of [Retry] the Backup app will finally open. It goes down hill from here. The backups routinely fail with cpp errors. "Assertion failed". Now it's stuck. It thinks one of the failed backups is running and it refuses to start it, even after a reboot. Garbage. Stinky garbage.

I wish these idiots had to rely on their own backup software. (You KNOW they don't) I'd just love to stick a magnet on the hard drive of their office server and sit back and watch as they try to restore using their own crappy software. That show might be worth the price of admission, the software certainly isn't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely frustrated and sorely disappointed, August 2, 2010
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
I bought a new backup drive that came with Nero Essentials. Essentials didn't have enough options for me so I bought the full version of Nero BackItUp and Burn. After multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, this software still does not work. Tech support is incredibly slow to respond - 36 hours minimum on their response time. In today's digital age, that slow response time is unacceptable. Even though I have asked twice now for my money back via their mail support system, I still haven't heard from them. I've called Nero and hope someone will call me back.
Never again will I buy anything from this company, nor will I recommend them to anyone. I am technically literate and can't believe their customer service is so poor. I'm not one to post complaints, but my experience with Nero these past 10 days couldn't go unmentioned.

As an update, I finally reached spoke with a supervisor at Nero who agreed to refund my money. At the same time I was talking to him, Nero tech support responded to my help request (5 days after I submitted it) and asked me to reinstall just one more time. The supervisor said I had already done enough and that he would process the credit and I should get it within 7-10 days.

1.0 out of 5 stars BackItUp fails to Burn, February 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
I purchased this application in December to back up my files and folders. It worked for all of one week. Then, for some unkown reason it started to crash on me. It would load of the files I wanted burned but then would kick out my disc after anylizing my files. I tried burning some audio files using BackIt and it would do the same thing. I finally got tired of it and uninstalled it before it wrecked my PC. I gave 32 dollars to Amazon for nothing. Never again!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nero Backup is the worst backup you can buy., June 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
Nero back was provided via OEM for a new computer and worked fine, however I could not use the software on a newer computer. I purchased this older version to be able to restore files but I could not. I downloaded the latest version of the program, Version 10, and still could not restore the files. Nero is a poor backup program so I would stay away from it at all cost.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seemingly good - incredibly slow, September 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
It would seem this is a great solution but I have to say I got what I paid for - a software that simply slows down my machine and takes up ALL processes when actually running and over 50% of the cpu when it is simply hanging around.

Next time I will spend the money to get something worth running - but the problem with software is you simply have to keep trying until you find what you like best. I would suggest you stay away from this one.

Otherwise the software itself was sent in a mailing bag so the whole thing was crushed a few times over. But the CD was intact and that is really all that matters.

Be Blessed!
Chris

3.0 out of 5 stars Wrong Serial Number, September 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
I purchased this software a week ago and still don't have it installed. I keep getting a message that the serial number is wrong for the product. The serial numbers on the sticker with the BackItUp & Burn dvd says Nero 9 and BackItUp 4. I talked to a customer support online chat and he said to scan the receipt and the serial numbers and send it to tech support. That was last Friday (4 business days) and no response yet. Everything was sealed tight and the only thing wrong is the sticker on the back of the sleeve. It is a poor company that won't provide support for something that they caused. No one has control over placing the right serial numbers on the sleeves except them. I can't tell you if the software is any good because I can't get the proper serial number to go with the product. What does that tell you!

1.0 out of 5 stars Restore failed with no messages, so backup useless., August 30, 2009
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
Ok, I refer to Backup tool that came with Nero 8. BUT since Nero have not released a fix to that version it's reasonable to assume that it is still broken. Otherwise Nero have cheated earlier customers by providing software not fit for its purpose.
There were several reports of the same type of failure (only visible in log file, C-based errors), so it was not an isolated case. Furthermore a respondent in one report claimed to be a Nero Employee (but offered no fix).

So be safe and don't buy this.

1.0 out of 5 stars ate my audio driver: use with extreme caution, June 29, 2009
By
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
Nero does not just do automatic backup; installing it also changes your audio driver, and in my case the result was scratchy audio. SO I uninstalled Nero using Windows XP's add/remove programs, and I reset the system to the last checkpoint before installing Nero. But the audio driver is still not working. I'll have to purchase and install a new sound card with new software- not that costly, but a serious drag.
Note that Nero does NOT offer free technical support. (They charge $1.29 per minute, with no guarantee of resolution. Thus it could well be cheaper, in the end, for me to just purchase a new sound card for $20, rather than enriching Nero, which in my view is undeserving.)
Thus, I strongly caution you NOT to purchase any Nero products UNLESS your retailer offers free technical support for it OR you are a very advanced techie. If you are an ordinary user/consumer, use at your own risk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product - recommended!, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Nero BackItUp & Burn (CD-ROM)
My wife kept bugging me to backup all our family photographs, videos and emails. A friend highly recommended the new Nero software, so I bought it

I was skeptical about it, but after the short install I was overwhelmed by the feature set - yet easy to use.

You can backup files, volumes, hard drives, discs, you can move all content from one hard drive or volume to another, make it bootable, backup to ftp, with all different settings. In short it can do all the functions I have seen with other backup software, and even much more. Very sophisticated.

I especially love the automatic mode, which backups all important files automatically without the need to select folders or files from my different volumes. It just finds the right files, and saves them. Works great. I highly recommend this feature. It can even save all our family files to online storage - but this costs extra money, so you need to check if you need that. If not, then I recommend using the software to save the family files automatically to a local backup hard drive (very cheap) and put it in a save place.

Nice is also the included Nero burning application and a tool to recover deleted data from a CD or DVD or hard drive.

PRO: fast, easy-to-use, high quality software, great price

CON: online storage backup is not free
