This review is from: Nero: Destroyer of Rome (Leaders of Ancient Rome) (Library Binding)
This is an interesting 99-page overview of the life of Nero and his times, with pictures on many of its pages, some merely cultural or parenthetically related to the book's subject but all to the Roman Empire in general. It's written down for a young person -- not the 4-to-8 as listed, that's nonsense -- but a young teen and up. I enjoyed it, it's a fast read, I learned a lot. And I'm not a young teen: I just retired and S.S. benefits started. It's a pretty book, the sort you enjoy holding in your hand, and authoritative -- from a noted publisher where the author discusses how we know some things and how certain "facts" got bandied about by contemporary rumors and legends over the centuries. This and fellow books in the series on Augustus, Cicero, Hadrian and others are fine for the reader who wants to know his subject in an hour's time -- at times you don't want more than that. I'm going to get the others too.
