my nerves have been beaten!!,
By fish (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nerve Beats (1973) (Audio CD)
wow! I saw Han play 2 summers ago and his performances are always brilliant and this album further defines his genius. Not only is he one of the best jazz drummers ever but he is entertainer of the weirdest/hilarious sort and can play anything/everything he puts his hands on. He is also the loudest drummer i have ever heard (i'm sure he must have tinnitus!) The CD had me laughing, dropping my jaw frequently, and wondering how ... he could do so many things at once! But he's not just all flash, humour and dadaist insanity. There are moments where he is really in the light, channeling something almost divine, I cant really explain it any better than that. Listen to his music and find out for yourselves!! or go see him play!!

New Dutch Swing,

The book "New Dutch Swing" covers Han Bennink and a bunch of other related artists. If you like solo drum albums, also look for Susie Ibarra, Hamid Drake, Michael Zerang, Milford Graves.
