I purchased two of these roasters to cook Christmas dinner. It made the best ham, and pork I have cooked in my life, moist and hot and once it was seasoned and clicked on it practically cooked itself.
HOWEVER EVEN THOUGH I give it five stars for being a fantastic extra portable oven
Nesco sends this item out in need of being pre-used before cooking in for the first time.
Had my son not used it the week before to make sausage and meatballs Christmas dinner would have been ruined!! AND my house would have reeked of burnt plastic!!! The initial odor was quite bad .
The oven took over 7 hrs. plugged in outside to burn off this odor. I have had toaster ovens, coffepots toasters, electric fry pans etc. and pulled them out of the box washed and used them instantly! Nesco would do well to burn the oven off on their own site. I called customer service and let "poor nice Hazel" have it....hopefully she will pass along my suggestion and get a promotion to boot!
Also, I have no garage and had it been a rainy day I would not have had a ventilated covered area to burn it off in. I do see another review where this was an issue for the man who bought it... if you read this I agree but I wish you had kept the oven its all up hill after burn off! YES it is true, they do state in the directions to run oven before using for the first time BUT this is inside the box. This could be a real deal breaker for someone who didn't open it up at least a day before they needed it!
Bottom line it is a fantastic product. Easy clean up & versatile can be used to cook & keep food warm, use indooror or on hot days why not cook outdoors , good looking , roomy, like having an extra oven only when you need it, and it even stores neatly within itself. Yes I can say it does what I need quite well!

Following the directions we 'baked' the roaster oven before using, and subsequently used it for a large roaster chicken. It came out wonderful. The inside was nice and tender, thoroughly done, and very juicy. The outside is well done and crisp, just the way we like it. I would recommend this roaster oven, but be sure to 'bake' the roaster as per the instructions before using it to cook food. Great item!

Having been used to two ovens in previous homes and having juggled with one oven over Thanksgiving I bought this to help. After reading the customer reviews I knew what to expect. Prior to use I burned off whatever makes it smell so bad. The manual suggests a short time for this; I let it heat for several hours. It's first use was to roast a turkey. I followed the "recipe" in the manual and was very pleased with the result. The bird was not completely pale and as I slice in the kitchen this would have not have been an issue anyway. The meat was tender and juicy and received rave reviews, better than my usual oven cooked birds.

This Nesco Roaster has been a life-saver for me, especially when my oven broke down--I've baked 3 large turkeys in mine, and even baked bread, baked cookies, lasagne, chicken dishes--you name, it can be baked in it--plus, it doesn't heat up your entire kitchen while doing it! And, the porcelain cookwell does not mean it will be tough to clean--it cleans up about as easily as one with the non-stick, and I've owned both types!

The order arrived in just a few days and in excellent condition. I am quite happy with both the purchase and the service.

I purchased this product in November of last year. I had hoped it would have arrived for Thanksgiving. It did not. When it did arrive the burn off took longer than the manual stated. I've used this roaster oven 2 times with success. The chicken was moist and tender. Now it doesn't
work. After plugging it in and setting the knob, it does not heat up at all. The return policy states that a product can only be returned in 30 days. That was very expensive way to cook 2 chickens.

Got this for my mom for Christmas so that she can cook a turkey at thanksgiving without giving up her oven. It works great, but definitely make sure that you turn it on as soon as you get it and leave it on high heat outside or in a garage for a couple of hours. The film on it that has to burn off is pretty thick and smells pretty bad. I think the product instructions said to only do it for an hour but we did it for at least 3.

This roaster oven arrived very very dirty, like it had been setting on a shelf in the warehouse out of the bag and not in the carton. Both the carton and the bag the roaster were in were clean, but the roaster was in the box upside down. The carton was not factor sealed, but retaped. Very disappointing. Also I specifically clicked on stainless steel when ordering...it is an ugly spray painted gray (Millennium Silver). I checked back on my order and the order did say Millennium Silver, but when clicking it said stainless...so buyer beware.

I'm a hobby massage therapist and use this roaster for heating my massage stones in a bath of water. I need to be able to regulate the temperature between 125 and 150 F. The heating elements are in the walls and not the floor of the roaster, so temps next to the edges tend to be a bit hotter than in the middle, but allowing for that, it works just fine. Haven't tried cooking with it yet, but thanksgiving is approaching.

I purchased this to use for Hot Stone Massage and for the price and value, it's perfect! Great quality, durable and long lasting. Just make sure to cure it well before your first use. They say 60 minutes, I'd do 120 minutes. If you are a massage therapist, this is a great buy and well worth it!
