4.0 out of 5 stars Nesco 4805-14
The Roaster Oven is great but for one IDIOTIC thing. The lid is tin and the handle and its mounting screws are plain steel. What's the matter with that? I had to replace the handle screws with stainless steel screws and nuts because they were already RUSTING!! The lid, if it gets scratched somehow, will also rust where it is scratched.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to Nesco's quality and design standards
We own the Nesco 18 Quart Roaster oven we like the quality and design of the product and have used it many times. However the 5 quart roaster oven we sent back because the quality was not as good, its metal seemed flimsier, the removable cooking pan was the main concern also the cover did not sit well and slide around on the oven. I cannot comment on its performance...

I work and have a small hoppy farm and use this as my slow cooker. Pan insert is not as heavy as other slow cookers I have used. Roast great besides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Replaces the big oven for most jobs!, October 30, 2010

Have used this roaster oven for a couple of weeks now.

Wish I had purchased this little "oven" much sooner. I emphasize "oven" because I use this unit more as an "oven" than a "roaster". We are a family of 2 and it is perfect for the size meals we cook. This little prize is so much better than heating up the house with the big oven. And it's cheaper to use than the big oven and also portable.

This 5 qt. Nesco has produced very nice results. The temperature is accurate (tested with my Polder) and recipe times are "spot on". (Looking forward to preparing some delicate flan this week.)

This little oven produces great results. I've roasted chicken, baked 2 pound cakes, banana bread, prepared slow baked bar-b-que spare ribs, and beef stew. Even though the unit isn't large, it easily accomodated 2 half racks of ribs, wrapped in foil (stacked one on top of the other) without touching the lid. The baked loaf of banana bread and pound cakes didn't touch the lid when baked either - so I am quite satisfied. I specifically purchased this oven for it's shape instead of the oval because I wanted to bake with it. I didn't feel loaf pans would fit correctly or bake properly in an oval. So this particular model has proven to be a good choice.

Have also tested it in our RV using 30 amp service with no problems. I can still run the A/C or brew coffee with the little oven on. (I made a call to Nesco before we purchased and was told it only pulled about 6 amps.)

When the oven first arrived, I "cured" it on high without the lid for 60 minutes as recommended by Nesco. However; I noticed when I used the oven the first time, the smell still lingered and there was still a little smoke when the lid was put on and the oven brought up to temperature. (Naturally the oven will get hotter with the lid on, so I removed the food and "cured" another 30-40 minutes, but this time with the lid ON. The new components have to come to temperature the first time, so the smell and a little smoke are a natural part of the process.) I made sure the cookwell was empty during both "cures" and the second cure did the trick.

I am pleased and will purchase again should this unit goes out. But, it's covered for 3 years regardless of what happens to it. I try to purchase the Square Trade warranty on electical items, and $7.99 for 3 years coverage on this little oven is cheaper than replacing it. Even if it gets zapped due to an electical surge, it's covered. If I drop it, it's covered - if it gets slipped into a sink of water, it's covered...so peace of mind for at least 3 years. Talk about controlling cost! And who can predict an electrical surge, electrical storm...
or the next time you'll drop something with soapy hands?

The quality with Nesco seems so good that I've also decided to purchase the NESCO Electric 3-in-one Pressure Cooker (and the 3 year Square Trade Drops and Spills Warranty for that too!).
