By far, the best way to roast a turkey!,
By
This review is from: Nesco 4808-14-30 Classic Roaster Oven, 18-Quart, Non-stick Cookwell, Ivory (Kitchen)
Our primary use for this great roaster is for cooking the Thanksgiving turkey each year, but it also has a multitude of other uses.Nesco roasters are such a part of my family's history that I thought everyone owned one. When there were family reunions, we'd see many of these, holding everything from hot potato salad to baked beans, to burgers and brats to keep them warm before the meal starts. Back to the turkey, however. In the 10 years that my wife and I have been hosting Thanksgiving for our families, we've never had a bad turkey come out of the Nesco. When I hear stories about dried-out birds in standard ovens, I can't relate, since I've never had any need to roast a turkey or ham in the oven. The Nesco roaster keeps the food moist while cooking evenly. There's not much more you can ask from a roaster, and this does it with ease!

I grew up in central Wisconsin, and there were three articles of faith that everyone took for granted---the Green Bay Packers, International Harvestor trucks and tractors, and Nesco roasters. Well, the Pack have had their ups and downs, and IH is out of business, but Nesco still makes a great cooker (made in China now, unfortunately), that can handle anything, including pies, cookies, chili, booyah, the Thanksgiving turkey and the Christmas ham. Forget the Cuisinart, ditch the microwave oven, lose the high-end Viking gas oven. Yeah, they draw a lot of electricity (1,435 watts), but I truly feel sorry for anyone who has to muddle through life without one.

These roasters are great! We also use them at church and community functions and don't know how we would prepare our meals without them. Replacement liners and other accessories (if not available at this web site) can also be purchased direct from Nesco.

I bought this oven, thinking it was more like a slow-cooker; but it's definitely not slow! We cooked a roast w/carrots, onions and potatoes for a family dinner the other night and WOW! Clean-up was easy too! The only downside to this oven was that when I opened the box, there was a small nick and scratch inside the cooker part (not the teflon);but this hasn't affected the performance at all. Infact, my parents want one for themselves!

Our oven broke, so I bought this for a temporary help until my family could afford a new stove. I love it!! I tend to use it to make chicken. I also take it on the road to help family for smaller dishes during the holidays when the oven is filled. The only thing I haven't mastered with it is baking. Still, got more than what I payed for!!

HOW DO I GET REPLACEMENTS,
This review is from: Nesco 4808-14-30 Classic Roaster Oven, 18-Quart, Non-stick Cookwell, Ivory (Kitchen)
NESCO ROASTERS ARE THE BEST, AND THE NEW NONSTICK LINERS ARE FANTASTIC, AND I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW WE COULD GET REPLACEMENTS FOR ALL THE ROASTERS OUR LEGION ALREADY HAS, BUT THEY HAVE THE REGULAR LINERS. WE DO HAVE FOUR NEW ROASTERS, AND WE LOVE THEM, THE CLEAN UP IS MUCH FASTER, LETTING THE WORKERS OF FUNERAL LUNCHEONS ETC.TO GET HOME EARLIER.

We bought this to cook our Thanksgiving turkey, added a little water and it was the juiciest turkey we have ever cooked. The heat emits from the sides and it cooks evenly. We like the other features like the rack and removable cookwell. If it had a glass cover it would be perfect.

I purchased this before Thanksgiving and cooked a stuffed 16 lb turkey in it. I chose it over less expensive models because it looked more sturdy and it sounded like there were cooking elements over the sides as well as at the bottom.
The turkey cooked well and was very moist. It was easy to baste. It was a little hard to lift the turkey out of the cooking well. I would put some cheesecloth or twine straps under the turkey before cooking next time to make this easier. The oven did require a preparation time to burn off chemicals. I did this outside for about four hours a few days before I used it. It was not especially annoying, although if you are not set up to do this outside or if you need to use the oven right away I would not purchase this particular oven.

I've been wanting to buy a roaster so I could free up my regular stove for other things, so decided to buy myself an early Christmas present. I wanted a roaster that was easy to clean, so this one has a nonstick finish. I used it this Thanksgiving, and I had a 20lb turkey that fit perfect in the pan. I was surprised that it did not take as long as anticipated to cook the turkey. Even though I over cooked it (it fell apart), it was still delicious, very moist. I am so glad I bought the roaster, with this brand (Nesco) I will be able to purchase inserts for buffets for the future! Clean up was a breeze, no scrubbing!
