5.0 out of 5 stars Best turkey ever
I bought a turkey thanksging 2003 and used my new 18 quart Nesco . My husband and I are not turkey lovers. My nesco roaster made my 17cents a pound turkey tender, moist, and flavorful with just paprika, salt, pepper, 1 cup oil and butter, and chopped onion, carrots, celery. Yum-Yum-yum. Iused the nesco 6 quart roaster to make soup, cooking slowly all night the bones...

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful
Been cooking the slow cooker since 6AM. It's now 8PM and the pulled pork is still not near cooked. In a cheap slow cooker that I also have going simultaneously, the cheap cooker had the pork done perfectly since 5 PM.

My nesco roaster made my 17cents a pound turkey tender, moist, and flavorful with just paprika, salt, pepper, 1 cup oil and butter, and chopped onion, carrots, celery. Yum-Yum-yum. Iused the nesco 6 quart roaster to make soup, cooking slowly all night the bones and previously cooked chopped vegetables adding rest next day etc. I am a caretaker of 95 year old alzheimer patient with no teeth. She ate turkey without chopping it, because it was so tender and moist.
Sincerely, 65 year old fan of Nesco roasters.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost as good as they claim..., December 31, 2002
This review is from: Nesco 4808-47-30 18-Quart Roaster Oven with Nonstick Cookwell, Millennium Silver (Kitchen)
A nesco is a very good second oven. It is also very good for cooking your dinner outside (if you have an outlet) on a patio on a hot summer day. I did find mine easy to clean on the non-stick interior...a bit less so on the outside but still very cleanable. The issue I have is that is isnt really an excellent unit for crockpot cooking which is what i primarily wanted it for. It cooks a bit different, the timing is a bit different and the crockpot recipes dont exactly transfer. It took me a while to figure that out. You *can* use it as a crockpot but if you are buying it to use it primarily for that I would choose a crockpot instead. That said, it bakes, roasts very well. and keeps things warm (like pots of chile or soup etc) for a party excellently.

I go back to the time when Nesco Roasters were part of every large gathering and were on every buffet table.

However, we recently used it on a camp trip where we had to serve 35 people at lunch. We boiled up the hot dogs first. Then put each one in a bun and wrapped each one in foil. Put them all in the Nesco, set the control on warm and we were set for the rest of the day. This kept the buns soft and warm and seemed like we were at the ball park. The next morning, we did the same thing with the breakfast burritos. Able to make up a large batch and keep them warm until everyone was served.

Some of the younger people in the group were amazed as they had never heard of a Nesco roaster.

I have two Nesco Roasters, a 6-qt and a 12 qt. They can be used to roast a turkey or pork loin (or any other type of roast), as a great slow cooker for soups and stews, as well as chili, etc. I use these for all my picnics and holiday events. They are a great "second" oven when you are planning a holiday meal or party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good investment, November 24, 2005
This review is from: Nesco 4808-47-30 18-Quart Roaster Oven with Nonstick Cookwell, Millennium Silver (Kitchen)
This thing beats all the modern forms of cooking out there. My ife and I did our first turkey this year for Thanksgiving. It was great! Tender, Moist and Juicy! We did realize the times were a bit faster though, just turn it back to 200 if it gets done earlier and you'll keep the moisture in. Then turn it back up to 400 for about 45 min- 1 hour. It took about 3.5 hours for our 15 LB bird.

Now , getting to the guy who put in the bad review(M. Richard). You obviously did not read the directions, so I'll tell you, your supposed to turn your roaster on for an hour or two to let it smoke off the coating before you use for the first time. You really threw away a great roaster, but in the event your just trying to get people's Goat, your stupid!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to buying a 2nd oven!!!, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Nesco 4808-47-30 18-Quart Roaster Oven with Nonstick Cookwell, Millennium Silver (Kitchen)
We bought this to cook our Christmas Turkey since we were cooking another large dish that needed the oven at the same time. I had never heard of anyone using this but read reviews and decided it was cheaper than a kitchen overhaul for a 2nd oven needed a couple of times a year. I made a 20 lb turkey and it came out so great...cooked faster than I was expecting but I was able to leave it in just shut off without drying out. It was moist and delicious! The skin does brown but doesn't leave a crispy skin like you'd get in a regular oven so I'd suggest either dealing with it (I don't eat the skin anyways) or perhaps finishing it in the regular oven for the last 1/2 hr to brown the skin. I also made a large mac & cheese casserole for work pot luck soon after getting it. I cooked in the cookwell in my regular oven the night before (wanted a crispy topping) but then reheated at work and it worked perfectly.

Disregard the bad review about the smoking..directions clearly state that you need to let it smoke for about at least an hour before using in a well ventilated area prior to first use. We did that outside and then had no problems with smoking later. If I were getting again, I would probably choose the stainless (I bought non-stick) since I'm finding the nonstick is tough to get the stains out of.

You can't go wrong with this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nesco 18-Quart Roaster Oven, July 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Nesco 4808-47-30 18-Quart Roaster Oven with Nonstick Cookwell, Millennium Silver (Kitchen)
I received the oven very soon after placing my order.
Following the directions, I allowed the oven to 'burn-in'prior to use.
I roasted two chickens as per directions and they turned out great.
The non-stick cookwell worked pretty well but there were a couple of areas where burned-on chicken did stick.
Next time, just to be sure, I'll spray some non-stick cooking material to see if that cures this small problem.
Otherwise, I feel that this Nesco Roaster Oven does the job very well.

We bought these cookers to use during an office party "chili cook-off". Both roasters worked well and had no problems, although we only used them once so far.

I used the Roaster Oven for my Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham and they both turned out delicious! I purchased the roaster because I have a small oven and am very happy with my purchase. Very easy to use and to clean.

I love Love Love!!! This product .... I use it for a second oven when needed ( I have a large family ) and I use it for the holidays ... no more dry bird for me. I also purchased the air lid so not only do I not have a dry bird I don't have ghost bird like some roaster ovens leave you with.

Not only would I buy this again I also own the 12 QT version that I use for side dishes.
