5.0 out of 5 stars Great roaster for many uses!
Like its 18 qt. big brother, this Nesco roaster is great not only for making moist beef roasts, but also for heating large servings of baked beans, hot potato salad, and multitude of other items.

The heating is even and it self-bastes the roast as it cooks, leaving the worry out of making a dry beef or pork roast.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works well, but is it poisoning me?
I love the way this works , but the second time I used it the no stick coating starting coming off in my food- black strips of plastic -like stuff. When I wrote to Nesco about it , they sent me a price list to buy a new liner. I do not believe I should have to pay for that when I only used it twice. Also I asked them several times what the coating was and could it...

These roasters are so common in my family, that I grew up thinking that everyone had one. They are a common sight at family reunions and church functions, and for good reason.

Highly recommended, and it makes a great wedding gift as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Gotta Love This Roaster!, May 30, 2004

After reading about the Nesco Roaster on another board and despite having purchased and tried several other brands and being so diappointed they were thrown away...I took the chance and bought this one from Amazon.

What a joy to cook with this roaster...it does what it says it does. Every meat I have cooked in this roaster is so much better than in the oven and last night I prepared a braised pot roast and it was even better than the one I usually cook on top of the stove. Not just a roaster it cooks everything better than the crock pot using the same recipes.

I love this appliance so much and had so much rave reviews from family on the food cooked in it. I have bought one for each of my children.

Another plus is the clean up...one lift out pan is my kind of clean up.

Try it, you will love it.

Sue

Our Nesco roaster oven clearly advises the user to
"smoke-out" the roaster before use. The smoke-out
is to be done outdoors so that the bad odors from
initial use will not be bothersome.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not well made, December 4, 2003

This review is from: Nesco 4816-47-30 6-Quart Roaster Oven with Removable Cookwell, Silver (Kitchen)
I've had my roaster for about 6 months. I like the way the food comes out, and I use it about once a week. But one of the plastic handles cracked off right after I received it, and now the knob on the cover keeps falling off. Also, I have trouble figuring out what temperature I'm setting with the dial on the front. I enjoy using it, but I don't think it will last much longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile and much more useful than a slow cooker, April 15, 2004

I have a kitchen with very little counter space so I have to be selective about the appliances I use. I purchased the Nesco 6-quart roaster to serve as a slow cooker and roaster. Since my purchase, I've used my roaster almost daily and I love the nonstick liner for ease of clean-up. Some of things I have cooked in the roaster include soups, stews, roast chicken, steamed brown bread and have made baked potatoes. All have turned out well.

I roasted a Turkey Breast in this for Thanksgiving and it turned out great! My husband couldn't believe it was so tender, juicy and beautiful on the outside. I think everyone should own one!

I've found my Nesco 6-quart roaster over to be excellent. It is all that it was presented to be. I've made a meatloaf, turkey breast, chili and vegetable soup in it and they've all turned out excellent. It works every bit as well as a slow cooker as it does a roaster. I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars We call it "Mr. Nesco" '!!!, July 16, 2005
This review is from: Nesco 4816-47-30 6-Quart Roaster Oven with Removable Cookwell, Silver (Kitchen)
We love this item in our house so much its called "Mr. Nesco".
Easy to use, cooks beautifully & can be used for a wide range of recipes (roasts, stews, soups, chili), and remember, also bakes bread, rolls, baked potatoes, etc. just like an standard oven as well.

For years I only had one oven in the kitchen, so this became my second oven, especially during holidays when I needed more oven room. Although I use this item frequently, it was worth the price just to have it for use during the holidays. It was literally a lifesaver during these times, either for the sweet potato casserole, the baked potatoes, veggie casserole, the stuffing, dinner rolls or a small pie. If we were invited during the holidays to eat at someone else's home, I was begged to bring Mr. Nesco to help out w/the oven space.

Wonderful in the summer, when you can use it either indoors or plug it in outside or the garage, so the kitchen won't heat up but you can still have a fantastic roast chicken if you like!

Directions state that before using the new Nesco for cooking, you should first heat oven outside for a bit to burn off the protective factory coating. We did this, smelled a slight odor for about an hour, but after that had no odor.

Great price and a wonderful, multi use appliance, quality built too, mine is 8 yrs. old.

I got this cooker because it has so many variable heats. I had a crock pot that I returned because of the lack of heat controls. This has a turn heat control so you can decide what temp you want.

There is a smell if you do not let it burn off the way they tell you in the owner's manual. I took it out in the garage, turned it on high and left it for a few hours. No problems since.

I wish the lid were a little thicker. That is why this if four stars instead of five.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS is a good product!, December 22, 2004
This review is from: Nesco 4816-47-30 6-Quart Roaster Oven with Removable Cookwell, Silver (Kitchen)
I read the other reviews with a little scepticism, but after trying the oven for over a month now, I can honestly say it is one of the best kitchen appliances I have ever used. The temperature settings are accurate, it is attractive to look at and more important, easy to clean. As a single senior it is the perfect size to cook small meals for one or two people and the meats literally fall off the bone. From roasted pork to chicken to carrots and potatoes, it is perfection. The receipe book is an outstanding reference and packed with original and traditional receipes. Trust the cooking times indicated to the minute. If it recommends 23 minutes, it's done, take it out and enjoy. An amazing bargain at any price, but at Amazon the deal was incredible. If you are cooking for more than one or two, I would recommend a larger model however. The six quart I bought will do a normal size chicken or a 3-4 pound roast with a little room for vegies, but that's about it. I'm sure the larger ones are every bit as good. Be sure to follow the "curing" guidlines! Take it outside and let it smoke for at least an hour, longer is better in this case, the smoke will burn your eyes and stink up any room. It is worth the trouble to do this, trust me! The bottom line is, it's simple to use, easy to clean, and does a great job of cooking your favorite foods, buy it!
