My title says it all. While the unit is indeed noisy...it's not that bad. Definitely not the pitch of a 'hair dryer'. I have processed close to 75 lbs of beef over the past 9 months and it's performed like a champ! Further, I find that 5-7 hours is all it takes for the jerky dehydrating process...higher if you like nuggets. I love that I do not have to re-stack trays (I used to have a Ronco with a base heating element w/ no fan). Finally, it is super easy to clean provided you pat down your raw meat before putting them on the trays.

Ultimately, the unit works and works well. What more can you ask for?

This did a good job but it is very loud. I had to put it in the basement so as not to hear it!!
Again this is very loud fan motor. I will be looking for another unit.

Using this machine to dry hot peppers, works great. Sounds like a hair dryer though.

We used this dehydrator a lot in the fall to dry apples and herbs from the garden...it worked well for what we needed it for, except it was very loud. Loud enough to not hear the TV over it! It also seemed like it got very warm, and I didn't dare to use it anywhere but on the ceramic stove top. It also didn't last very long, I think we had it for 2 years.

I agree with other reviews that this is a little noisy, but I would say no louder than a normal fan on medium speed. We keep ours in the kitchen, which is next to the living room. The noise hasn't been enough to distract us from watching TV. And since we don't sleep in the kitchen, it hasn't bothered us at night, either. It takes anywhere from 8-12 hours to dry some fruit, so usually I leave the unit running while I go to work, so the noise isn't really an issue. Also, keep in mind the unit needs some sort of fan to dry everything evenly.

Aside from the noise issue, I love using this machine. I got this as a Christmas present and have been drying fruit non-stop. The fruit has been drying evenly and the clear top lets you see when the drying is done. I can't wait to explore all the other possibilities for this unit.
