This is a story about a real dog - Nessie, a Scottish terrier named for the famous Loch Ness monster, and a real place - Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Nessie comes to the Cape with Lily, a girl of ten or so, to visit Lily's grandparents. Cape Cod is full of temptation for Nessie. How can she not try to catch the fish in Grandpa's water garden? Aren't chickens made to be teased? Don't fiddler crabs want to be chased? Nessie finds it hard to "be good," but she only wants to have fun. She is an endearing character. Children will readily identify with her and adults will respond to her charm. Travelers will treasure the story as a memento of a trip to the Cape. The airy black and white illustrations evoke the special Cape Cod landscape and feature well-known landmarks: the Sagamore Bridge, Days' Cottages and the Provincetown Wharf.
