Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Net Media SC51 Color In-wall Camera provides one of the most innovative solutions available in residential camera applications. This unique, in-wall CCD-board camera is great for monitoring the front door, baby's room, or backyard. The baseband output of the SC51 can be viewed through the video input of a security monitor, TV, or VCR. Easy to install, this camera fits in a single gang (light switch) box and blends in with existing light switches to provide unobtrusive security and surveillance.

The Net Media SC51 utilizes a color CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor and a 3.7-millimeter fixed lens. This unit achieves a resolution of 380 horizontal TVL (TV lines), and can receive a picture down to a minimum illumination of 0.5 Lux. This camera features an automatic electronic iris, and a bendable bracket for adjusting your field-of-view. For its output the Net Media SC51 uses a BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman, RF-type) connector, and can be combined with a digital modulator to distribute the camera signal to all the TVs in the home. This unit runs on 12-volts DC power supplied via its included power supply, and uses the NTSC TV system for its baseband output.

Technical Features:

  • Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 0.5 Lux
  • Signal system: NTSC
  • Resolution: 380 TVL
  • Lens type: 3.7 millimeter fixed
  • Dimensions: 4 x 1.5 x 1.9 inches (W x D x H)
The Net Media SC51 deserves serious consideration as one of the easiest and most economical monitoring solutions available for those in need of basic in-home surveillance. Users should note that the CCD image sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

4.0 out of 5 stars In Wall Camera, February 6, 2007

This review is from: Net Media SC51 Color In-wall Camera (Electronics)
I was looking for a camera that would not stand out to put in our vacation home. The SC51 fit the bill and has a very nice picture for use with our motion detection software. The cameras have been running 24/7 with no failures for over 2 months. They are a little on the pricey side but were one of the few that would fit in a 1 gang electrical box and were aimable.
