1.0 out of 5 stars Strange permissions make me nervous... November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase
For an app that is little more than gathered internet information, this app has some very "exotic" permission requests. For instance I can't imagine why it would need to access the list of accounts in the Account service or why it would install "push notification" code. (com.Google.android.c2dm.receive) Push notifications are for when they want to access a device without having to open the application that installed that interesting piece of code into your device. There are a few reasons for that. Either so they can send ads without the application being open that they can put in your notification bar. Or so they can collect information from your device without the application being open...or to send silent instructions to your device. Whatever their reasons? Developers that rely on lifting information from other websites to create an app that is quite possibly nothing more than the proverbial Trojan horse should be approached with caution. I have removed it...there are better cooking apps that aren't so suspicious...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth much - permissions make it a 1 star November 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
I thought this was a cook book app where I would have interactive recipe info. It would be nice to see recipes with the ability to see how each ingredient offsets a particular "bad" food (lowering salt needs, reducing fat, etc.), but this is really nothing more than an app to link to other websites. I could have quickly searched for any of these recipes online without paying for this app. I'm not really sure if the developer got permission to link to these sites, but assuming he/she did, it is still not an app worth more than a dime. You really have access to all of these recipes for free if your phone/ tablet has the ability to access the internet...and it must or else you couldn't download the Amazon store. As a result, it earns a total of 2 stars.

Furthermore, be aware there are some permissions that allow the app to work in the background and give permission for information exchange when you are not even using the app. This might simply be downloading ads, but why does it need ads in a paid app? Unfortunately, it may also be trying to get your info. Regardless of the reason, I don't see a need for it. I am deducting one star for this permission.

As a result, I do not recommend paying anything for this app. If you can get it as the FAOTD, you might want to take a look at it, but beware of the permissions.

1.0 out of 5 stars I have lost my appetite. November 18, 2013
WARNING: It is MORE THAN LIKELY that this developer is pulling a PERMISSIONS BAIT AND SWITCH while this app is the FREE APP OF THE DAY! Please read and I will elaborate: if you look at the other apps from this developer, you will see that they are asking for just about every invasive permission under the sun. YET, this app, while FAOTD, seems to be "cleaned up". It is my belief that this is a RUSE so that people don't "notice" just how much this developer seems to enjoy taking over our devices, while this app is the FAOTD. Then, perhaps in a few days or so, they may just "update" it and put the same permissions in as all of their other apps. I don't know this for sure, but if you just go look at what else they are offering, it's pretty obvious that this is highly likely. So BE WARNED.

But never mind the questionable permissions that taken on their own make me not want to have this app installed on my device long term-- the app itself is simply awful. It's convoluted. It's unorganized. The sources of the recipes are pretty random. I don't believe the developer's promise that the recipes are "tested" for one second. Why would they make such an impossible statement when it is quite clear that they are just linking to other websites?

No thank you; and the fact they want to charge for this at all when it's obviously not even their own original content really makes it a "1 star" app for me-- because there are apps that are free that blow the doors off of this one and they are plentiful.

But again, the permissions of the other apps from this developer are frightening. There's no way in my mind that this app is any different at the end of the day.

1.0 out of 5 stars adware uninstall of shame November 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
It seemed like a decent enough app, worth three stars until it started getting flagged by my antivirus as adware. If this is not the case the developer seriously needs to address this. Hit me up with an update and I will change my rating. Until then please bump this and download with caution.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sad FAOTD Extremely disappointed November 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
I'm starting to think that these apps are picked by a bot and not a real person. How did this app make FAOTD I'll never know. It is a piss poor job at an app attempt and I would be very upset if I had paid for this.

Another reviewer pointed out that this was just a well organized list of links to other recipe websites and upon download and viewing I was disappointed to find this to be very true. And on top of that (and the idea that this developer is charging 99 cents is just adding insult to injury) there are ads in the links.

I'm not trying to troll anyone but I pay for apps. I currently use Jamie Oliver's recipe app and I paid full price for that (it was a FAOTD back in 2011 but Amazon for whatever reason doesn't update their apps even when the latest versions are available. I just went to the Google Play Store and bought it because the Amazon version didn't offer the update for the video playback plug in that was needed at the time.)

This app is a sad attemptto at monetization by doing no programing and using links to look like an app.

Smh... At least get rid of the ads if you're going to be lazy about building an app. You already charged people to buy it. Adding in app ads is just greedy.

I haven't commented on the FAOTD in a long time because for the past several months they have been absolutely the dreg of what is available.

Complete waste of 8 mb. Leave this one alone.
