This a combo modem router. I had a modem and separate Linksys router. My old router was over 10 years old. The modem was over 5. I'm not sure which went out, but I couldn't get my old router to work with a new modem that I bought from the ATT Store. I exchanged it for the Netgear 7550 at the Att Store. It was $100 but I wanted to make sure that I could get Att tech support if I needed it. Well, I did. I called and there was no wait. The tech person was probably American (no accent). He was competent, polite and courteous. MY problem was solved quickly and he answered all of my questions. I have to say that I was quite pleasantly surprised. I'm glad that I was able to use Att Tech Support. The unit is working fine and I had no problems adding all of our wifi components. I'm using ethernet cables for my pc and obi110 phone unit. I don't know if you need to buy from Att, but I did since I have Att DSL which has been very reliable at my location. I didn't give 5 stars because I don't know about the longevity of this unit.

I got an AT&T Netgear 7550 to replace an older model that went bad (also from AT&T) 9 months ago. Now the 7550 has gone bad, it resets it's self over and over continuously. But after about 6 to 12 hours it starts working normally again and usually around 8 to 12 hours later it starts to reset it's self over & over again for hours & it has been doing this for 2 months now. I am going to call AT&T and tell them exactly what I think about them & demand a different model modem & separate router. If the new one does. It work any better I'm going to switch to a different company.

Bought at corp store - really clean deal in store transaction. Purchased to replace a failed Motorola 2210. Start forward install, nice built in stand, setup went well butt At&t has the end of the setup process bump you into a 51 page long advertisement that u have to go all the way through to complete/finalize the setup. If you punch out early ya just have to start all over with the same result at the end. At&t tech support helped me step around the nasty ad. Cycle. The netgear router modem/router works great butt -SHAME on At&t- just more corp. Nonsence

This router modem combo device is a total piece of junk! AT&T claims that it's the best that they have. We're on our 2nd unit within a year and the one we have now is already about dead. It does not maintain wireless signal, then when you try to reboot the device, it won't reconnect back to service so those patched in can't connect either.

Don't expect this to last you more than 6-9 months before you need to replace it. yes when new, they work great...for about 3-4 months, so I really hope you have their equipment protection plan....you'll need it, often! I have to call tech support at least 1-2x a month so they can attempt to refresh it from their side because when it does this, you can't even log into the router to troubleshoot yourself. (then when you call they try to tell you that your cables are bad....so they're saying they still give you junky equipment, because they supply the ethernet cables too!)

If AT&T tries to send you this modem/router combo device, refuse it! You're better off with a seperate modem/router.

I got this router through AT&T, and we've had nothing but problems getting our Kindles and smartphones to connect. I've tried using factory settings. I've tried changing the authentication protocols (WEP/WPA/WPA2/mixed). I've tried using manually assigning static IPs. I've tried it all, but our devices won't connect to this router. If I try connecting my Kindle or iPhone to another network, it just works. But with this router, no dice.

Constantly drops wireless connections (requires modem reboot) and a google search shows that is quite common. ATT says they have no knowledge of issue (yeah right). No manual exists besides quick start. The web shows there is an unsypoorted firmware upgrade that solves problem but my modem refuses to load new code. ATT does not support FW upgrade and is only available from unsecured download sites. Brilliant!. I live in boonies with no other options. ATT blows.

This is a terrible device. I have nothing but problems with it. We got it directly from at&t and this is now our third one. It only let me log-in to the settings after a reset and even though my password is correct it will not let any of the devices on. Then magically it will work flawlessly for a few minutes to a few hours with out anyone changing anything. Then it will drop the connection again. After fighting with at&t and the device for weeks it will be fine for a month or two and then it starts all over again. This whole time we change nothing. All addresses and channels and passwords stay the same. It will just decide to work sometimes and then will just stop. For no reason the customer service people or myself can figure out. They say its the ethernet wires and the phone jack. They have sent people out before and all that is fine. They reboot it and it and it works for a little bit. They leave, then it starts up again. If you can get a stand alone modem from them and your own WiFi router I would highly recommend going this route. That's what I am going to do.
