The NTV200 is exactly what I was looking for in a media player except for one large issue that I have not been able to resolve. The set up and connection to my router and TV were easy and went as I expected. Pandora, VUDU, UTube, all work as advertised. However I bought this unit primarily to stream from Netflix and I have not been able to resolve the problems with movie playback. I can select Netflix from the Home page and it loads normally. I can search for movies and vue the que as well. When I select a title to play however, I get a pixilated green screen, audio appears normal. I called Netgear who told me this was a Netflix problem. They had me change the hdmi cord and restart the cable modem and router to no avail. They told me the problem was with Netgear not them and recommended I call Roku who may actually make the box. Roku went through some of the same steps but was unfamiliar with the product and sent me back to Netgear. Netgear again told me it was a Netflix problem and demonstrated a very poor understanding of their own product. This thing has the potential to work well and I assume there is some sort of compatiblity issue with my Sony Bravia TV or the Netgear router or some problem with the firmware. If I can't resolve this on my own in the next few days I will be returning the product to Amazon.

First thing first, I was part of the beta test program for this device and I received this device for free for testing purposes. My thoughts and opinion on this device are strictly my own based on my needs and use of the device and are non biased.

Now that that is out of the way I will say this is a great little feature packed device. It is packaged in a small form factor roughly 4X4 or 5X5 inches in size, has a HDMI connection as well as a port for Ethernet hookup. It's setup is rather fast and effortless, once you turn the device on for the first time you go through a series of screens to help you get the best streaming capabilities out of the device. One thing I like is that no matter what resolution your TV has, this device can output in any of them. I found that AUTO resolution worked best and this is great if you are unsure of the resolution of your TV as it will set it automatically for you. You can even setup the internet while on these main screens, you can choose wireless of direct connection with Ethernet cable. I have tried and used both and found that the connection is strong and doesn't require a lot of buffering when watching online content. Whichever connection method you choose, be aware that if you switch between sources really fast you need to allow and make sure the device connects to the internet if using wireless. There have been times when I do this and find that I cannot connect cause of dropped connection, so make sure you are connected.

This device allows you to connect to Netflix, Hulu +, Vudu, among others. There are games you can play, view online photos, even connect to facebook, making this a real all around media device. For those looking for a strictly streaming only device this is IMO one of the best, very fast and user friendly.... But, if you are looking to connect to network devices then it is best to look at other netgear devices as this will not do it.

Even though I have received this device for free initially, I purchased 4 more of these devices because its very easy to use and allows us to stream content in almost every room of our house. I find this to be one of the best streaming devices and am happy to recommend this to others as well as family members.

On a side note, check out the remote application on the I-phone and Android market. You may find yourself using its remote more often than the one that came with the device as its much easier to use. Read more ›

NETGEAR NTV Streaming Player (NTV200)

When you first look at the device, you will notice how small it is, making this device able to be placed just about anywhere. Installation is very simple just plug in the power adapter, the HDMI cable between the device and TV, and decide if you want it connected to the internet, wired or wireless. Easy on-screen prompts guide you effortlessly through the installation. Once installed, you will find many applications to chose from. For instance Netflix, which I found enjoyable being able to full access without having to place anything in my Queue. VUDU with very affordable HD rentals, which the device automatically adjusts the quality to your service provider. This device allows access to many other applications as YouTube, Facebook and so many others, that would be impossible to list every one. Updates when needed, display on the screen, and are a simple two button operation.
For the price you can't go wrong with this attractive device, made by NETGEAR, who has manufactured high quality products for years.

Good things do come in small packages. I got this unit (Netgear NeoTV NTV200) today, already had Netflix opened last week, now connected 42" LG LCD LED TV to it. Setup is a breeze, very good picture with choices of Auto, 1080p, 1080i, 720p and many more. There is no reason not to use Internet for watching movies - saves gas, postage, late fees and whatever else is involved in getting actual DVD to play. You will need good speed for smooth transmission at full resolution - nothing spectacular but standard 6 Mbps works perfect. I run in on wireless over LinkSys router with absolutely no problem.
This box was purchased strictly with Netflix in mind, but I suppose VuDu works the same except I am not looking to cough out $$ every time I want to watch "latest release" deal - for that I can wait a month and then use my local public library. Now, if you set it up wireless it will "check the network connection", and then hand-shake with the system. You will need SSID and password - those are in plain English "the name of your wireless network" and "the password you need to log into it". I am assuming you have security set on your wireless which is important or kids of people next door are for certain surfing on your wireless connection maybe even without knowing they do. Windows OS has tendency to grab what it finds and connects there unless there is some kind of security protocol. Now the trick with WiFi setup is that many systems have firewall on modem or router and in case of Netflix it will not connect if some ports are blocking. This is just how Netflix set up works - needs those port for a moment.... The solution is to disable firewall on your modem or whatever you have there using access from your computer, only for few minutes, run setup, enter code that you will be given, that code is embedding in Netgear NeoTV NTV200, then go back and bring firewall back in. If you have any problems, you will need to call tech support and they will guide you, or better yet borrow your neighbors 10 years old for 5 minutes and ask for help. Yes, it is that simple. The next day you may also call your cable company and tell them you switched to the C or Ku band satellite (they will need an excuse for disconnecting your pay-per-view service). LOL.
Remember you will need HDMI cable, there are many to choose from - I purchased MediaBridge High Speed HDMI, very nice quality and it came with that Free Shipping from Amazon just to sweeten the deal. Audio output from the box is Fiber Optic, and the whole box size is quite small, 4 ˝ X 4 ˝ X 1 inch, power adapter 12V 1 A, wireless is n/g/b, wired standard RJ45, PCM fiber audio 5.1, and with HDMI if you use modern TV you need nothing more but that cable - audio is going over the same as video.
This box is splendid, picture quality perfect, and I am happy I have now so many movies, including HD releases right there. I do set my Netflix "queue" on the PC, then watch them on big screen TV by selecting using simple nice looking flat remote - no fuss, no mess, and very enjoyable. Read more ›
