OK switch, but SNMP support is useless,

I'm a network engineer used to dealing with datacenter class equipment, so maybe my expectations are skewed...
The switch itself works ok. But this is supposed to be a "managed" switch with SNMP support. I expected to be able to graph the traffic of my switch ports. To my amazement, this switch only supports 32 bit interface counters. 32 bit counters were fine for polling every 5 minutes on 100 mbit interfaces, but they are useless at gigabit speeds. At 1 gigabit, the counter wraps back to 0 every 34 seconds, so 5 minute counter polling doesn't work (unless your traffic levels are low). I haven't tested any of the other features really. I just use it as a normal dumb switch, but paid extra for SNMP/management support so I could see traffic levels. Since that doesn't work very well, I should have stuck with the unmanaged Netgears.

Product is deployed @ home and is working as desired. I work in the enterprise network space and I would not recommend this unit for that space. But it is working great in my home network. The unit does have SNMP support and I manage the unit using free-software found on the web. I'm pleased with it's current deployment.

I use the port-based VLAN feature to isolate a guest access point. The monitoring features are nice too.

I'm a satisfied Netgear user - I've been using their product (mostly switches) for a few years now and I have no complaints - they do an excellent job at an excellent price.
I bought this particular switch so that I could play around with gigabit ethernet and jumbo frame, and it seems to be as effective as any of the other Netgear switches I have used in the past.

This switch replaced a 5 port non-smart (?) Netgear switch (GS105) and I like the ability that this one has to see and control better the traffic going through it :-) It helped me diagnose a network issue in minutes because of its capabilities :-)

Bought this switch so I could use with with my Ubuntu SAN / XMBC setup. Didn't even have to play with MTU settings. I get 40-55 MB/s with the default MTU setting.

I bought this for a client to replace a D-Link that had a port failure. I've been mostly happy with Netgear products' reliability. I used their smartswitches in corporate environments and they seem bulletproof, though too expensive for home office environments. This was an expansion of port count and a replacement for a home office that is accessed extensively from the field, and has to be reliable and high-performing, but on a budget. This switch seems to meet these needs. We have yet to try the more sophisticated functions, but plan to explore those when my client has time to work with me on that setup.

I purchased this switch to use with the structured wiring in my home. It nicely wall-mounts with the included anchors next to the wiring box.
I am a former network engineer, and this switch has a rather impressive set of features. As others have noted, the SNMP support is dated-- but the rest of the features (port mirroring, VLAN, rapid spanning tree, link aggregation) are now available at a price point which only a short time ago was what an unmanaged gigabit switch would cost. I chose it because I wanted to have interface counters (CRC error counts and packets received/transmitted) in order to troubleshoot network problems, and the interface is adequate for this. My one complaint is that it appears impossible to view the counters for ports other than the first in Safari on Mac, so I need to use Firefox. I would recommend this for anyone that might use the advanced features and has basic layer 2 networking expertise.

Excellent feature set, and while it can be a little cryptic to configure (RTFM!) it's an incredibly full featured switch for the cost.

Very easy to configure and does exactly what I need. I wanted to connect my PC and WHS at Gb speeds but I also needed to configure a port for 10/Half to support my DishDVR. I've tried connecting the DVR to other devices with Auto Sense and it never seems to work. Compact little device that does what I need.
